FOX Attacks!: FOX Attacks Decency… with Bill O’Reilly Leading the Way

  • billybush · 2 years ago
"A la carte" cable television would only limit our viewing choices and lead to more salacious programming designed to pander to viewers. If you don't like Fox News, don't watch it or ask the cable company to block it from your home.
  • Raziorizzo · 2 years ago
Hmmmmmmmmmm What about those who don't want to watch CNN ,MSNBC , CNBC or do you just want people to cut only Fox News out. But you do want the fairness doctrine back?? Just like a democrat. It's always what is convenient for them at that time. If people don't want to watch Fox News don't turn the channel to it ,block it on the cable box or shut you tv off. There are over 100 channels on cable go watch something else and stop being a hypocrite
  • Media Guy · 2 years ago
    From Inside Cable News:

The News Corp. report said cable network programming posted operating income of $289 million, an increase of $40 million from the year-ago quarter. The 16% growth reflects increased contributions from Fox News Channel, the regional sports networks and the Fox international channels; however, that growth was partially offset by launch costs associated with the Fox Business Network and the Big Ten Network as well as a lower contribution from FX.

The Fox News Channel more than doubled its operating income compared with the first quarter a year ago, primarily from increased affiliate revenues on higher rates and advertising revenue growth from higher volume and pricing.

And just comming back from a conference--your site was the butt of jokes and reticule--all you are doing is increasing business! Keep up the good work BNF!!!
  • Raziorizzo · 2 years ago
What these guys don't realize is that if the cable companies go "a la carte" cable they will charge a minimum for cable service of about 40 dollars and let you pick 10 channels which means less channels for more money. Second thing is it will never happen. CNN will lose the few viewers they have and MSNBC will be off the air. They want to hurt Fox News , they will instead hurt other networks and Fox will still come out ahead.
    They distort.....we reply

My father watches Fox "news" and loves it. Years ago he watched only the MacNeil/Lehrer Hour, and as a consequence was a well informed, thoughtful citizen. When he retired he began watching more television, and now is addicted to Fox's inept, biased, pandering and ridiculous "news". It such a shame. Now when the family gets together for birthdays, holidays, etc. it is impossible to have an intelligent conversation anymore with dad. He even tried to get a dialouge going about Brittany Spears at my last dinner party...I was shocked and embarressed for him. The tragedy is that his mind has been stunted and warped by this absurd channel. The whole family is so saddend...and dad can't even see how far he has digressed. I would love to opt out of FOX, but is that really the answer? Ignorant people will still watch it religously, and here's the scary part...vote. When European friends are visiting and ask me how a moron like George Bush could get re-elected, I sit them down in front of Fox "news" for an hour...and they get it.
  • Anonymous · 2 years ago
This is stupid, I for one would like to see more gratuitous nudity on Fox News, it's more informative than the rest of the crap they spit out.

Heh, just to spite you, I'm going to go watch porn now.
  • tim · 2 years ago
Better yet, ditch the cable and the TV altogether.
  • mikeT · 2 years ago
While I heartily agree with the overall point of the Fox/decency video, I do have to take issue with the wording of the write-up. With few exceptions, no one is "forced" to pay for Fox News. Your cable bill is not like "death and taxes" - you don't have to subscribe. It might be a burdensome choice in many areas, but you do not have to subscribe to cable TV. Please be more precise in the language that you are asking people to endorse.
  • mrjohnson · 2 years ago
Anyone see the hypocrisy here? Has Pat Robertson infiltrated BNF and started calling the shots. Since when are liberals and Democrats the arbiters of decency??? Who cares if Fox shows suggestive images? Like Raziorizzo says: change the channel.

As a long-time supporter, I've been really disappointed lately.
  • Joseph Csaszar · 2 years ago
Strange how ppl suggest to change the channel instead of opting for "a la carte". The point here isn't whether you watch it or not; the point is that you fund Fox whether you watch them or not. Lets stay focused here.
  • Dale Leisenring · 2 years ago
I STRONGLY believe that fox is the most false "news"
on TV. Take action and boycott FOX and its advertisers! Take action and email your Congressional Representatives, join Democrats.com,
Join VoteVets.org, etc. Whatever you do, make it an action with some power behind it! Whining about FOX and other Neo-Conservatives criminal behaviors does little, your emails and votes have an impact!! - Genuinely, Dale Leisenring

  • Christian Hertzog · 2 years ago
I hate the Fox News Channel and Bill O'Reilly, and I almost always agree with the viewpoint espoused by Robert Greenwald and Brave New Films, but I can't support this. Censorship is censorship, and that's what you're asking us to do. Freedom of speech means we have to put up with Fox News. Don't any of you see the irony of condemning the airing of shows which themselves condemn the airing of material some folks find offensive?? How po-mo! I'd love to have a la carte cable programming, but obtaining it this way is hypocritical. You can always have any channels you don't like blocked by your cable company. What I detest about cable TV channel packages is that I'm paying for 30 or 40 channels that I never watch, and I'd much rather pay $2 or $3 a month for the channels I want to watch.
  • truth machine · 2 years ago
    "Anyone see the hypocrisy here?"

Yes, we see it on Fox News -- duh.
  • James Howe · 2 years ago
It's so hypocritical that Fox News and O'Reilly go on the air to basically condemn Liberals as the reason for all the problems in this country. The Republicans have been in control for the past seven years and have basically turned America into a divided, hated country involved in one illegal war and wanting to start yet another. People like O'Reilly and the idiots that support and believe the crap he spews out daily suffer from a serious personality disorder that prevents them from seeing the reality of what is really going on in this country. The problem goes even beyond that because even if they do eventually see what is happening, they don't care, as long as it isn't them that are suffering or it isn't their fault, although their way of thinking and the people that patronize that self-serving, me-only ideology are indeed the force that is bringing this country down. To believe the crap that Fox News and O’ Reilly put forth on a daily basis, one must be either stupid or evil, but sadly, I think many of their viewers are both, and if not stupid, at least ignorant.
  • Jonathan Steigman · 2 years ago
Agree with some of the commenters; this is a very bad, regressive idea. A one-price-for-all basic cable subscription model allows the largest possible diversity of opinion and viewpoints. I don't watch any foreign language stations, or ESPN either, but I'm happy they exist and glad they're available to me if I ever want to see them. In fact, something very like this model is probably where the music industry is headed, too.

Don't forget that O'Reilly's viewers are subsidizing The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, too! Please stick with fighting Fox the old-fashioned way: by showing again and again that they're a pack of lying neo-fascists douchebags.
  • rane56 · 2 years ago
There are two issues here, one is the “a la carte” cable subscription availability, which is probably a good idea for a small majority of people who subscribe to cable, but obviously not good for the smaller networks who still get a piece of the pie because of package subscriptions. (Now I’m not sure if certain channels get more dough for having more viewers so I’m going on the assumption that its an equal distribution.) Although most people probably wouldn’t take the time and opt for the basic package, the pick and choose method may have a adverse effect on smaller stations like Democracy Now because of that possibility I can’t support this effort. If someone can show me different I would sign.
The second seemingly having nothing to do with “a la carte” cable is Fox being hypocritical when discussing the “moral decline” while showing “scandalous” images and clips and also being partly responsible for that decline. I mean come on what do we expect from Fox? The only thing that makes sense is to continue to show people how biased and hypocritical they really are and attempt to force Fox into getting back to real journalism.

You guys need to get the footage of the o'reilly factor showing "Paris Porn" it was @ June 20, 2007 show. I've looked for it and can't find it anywhere. Keith Olberman references it here at the end of his commentary. www.mediamatters.org Let me know where you found it. I actually sent the FCC a letter regarding the Paris porn portion of The O'reilly factor. If I remember correctly O'reilly was hypocritically lambasting a "pig and condom" commercial for being to offensive, then the next segment was about 90 seconds of Paris porn. I've search every where for it. Does fox have that much power to actually make it go away? Again, please let me know if you guys found it.
    Thanks, Scott

Fox labels itself as news, put presents lies attacks daily. they lie to the eldery daily for personal profit. Many know they are being lied to yet watch to consolidate the fascists propoganda. Scary day for america. The reason fox must be pulled and the fairness doctrine reenacted is for this very reason. The left does not want to silence these people. But if they are lying to the elderly about politics, they should have balance, some for of reality. And I'm not talking about liberal punching bags. I'm talking even representation. O'Reilly and the right silence liberals daily because they are "offened". Why can we not recipracate?

We are a self government. In a self government we relie on news to make informed decisions about the future of the country. Can we do that if we are given half truths and lies? No we can't. not to mention the conflicts of interest (Ailes running a rudy campaign, getting paid by big oil and drug).

Bring back the fairness doctrine. The right-wing attack machien then fails. Not because they are silenced. But because they will have someone there to tell the listeners that these propogandsits for profit are flat out lying for profit.

There time is almost up. Thank you Robert for doign the tough work. I can name 20 "leftistS" silenced or fired due to the right. Who on the right has been fired or silenced? Why can we not reciprate? The gop may make the all the rules. But do they then have to abide by the rules they create? Greenwald is trying to hold them to their rules. If we stand by and do nothing we are slaves to fascism. One way street. Thank you for showing fox and rush, what they do si not ok

  • Michael Heister · 2 years ago
I am no lover of Fox News. However, look at who's supporting a la carte - Phyllis Schlafly, James Dobson of Focus on the Family and the Parents Television Council, as Kansas City TV writer Aaron Barnhart reports.

My concern is that unbundling will not save us money, and may not get rid of Fox News, but may drive out niche channels I do happen to like, such as the Independent Film Channel (IFC) and Sundance. Channels that cater primarily to women or gays such as Oxygen and Logo may also not survive in an a la carte cable world.

If we support a la carte to attack Fox News may be cutting off our nose to spite our face.

Option B: write your cable company and complain about Fox News. Ask them to pull it from the basic service.
  • Anonymous · 2 years ago
"Option B: write your cable company and complain about Fox News. Ask them to pull it from the basic service."

Yeah, right. I wrote two weeks ago to complain that I didn't get Fox Business Network. Today I got a reply that it will be added to my basic cable on 12/1. Should FOX ever be pulled from cable I will switch to satellite. Fuck you and your so-called free speech 'fairness act' progressives.

"I hate being forced to pay for something I don't watch."
Who is "forcing" you. Get rid of cable. No one is forcing anyone to do anything. You control what goes on in your house not the cable company. These people blame the cable company for Fox. The balme PS2 because their kids are bad. They blame government because they can't pay the mortgage. They blame McDonalds because their kids are fat. They blame cigarette companies because they got cancer. They blame Budweiser because they are an alcoholic. Do any of these people take ANY reponsibility for their actions?? Is it always someone elses fault for your shortcomings?? Lets take "In God We Trust" off the coin because someone got offended. Take the American flag down because "someone" doesn't like it. Don't say "Merry Christmas" because the person may get insulted. Is this what we have become? If you don't like Fox don't watch it. If you don't like Christmas ...well.........to bad. Real funny. It would be funny. It would be a joke if my brothers and sisters weren't dying everyday. If ALL our resources weren't being sucked dry. Where is this money going? All these trillions? Why can we not recipracate? The gop has been silencing the left ofr years. If you don't want to play those rules I have a suggestion. STOP ATTACKING AND SILENCING LIBERALS. billybush: "If you don't like Fox News, don't watch it or ask the cable company to block it from your home."

Fox News still gets paid over 75 cents per cable subscriber. With a la carte, you wouldn't have to pay that if you don't want to.

Raziorizzo: "What about those who don't want to watch CNN ,MSNBC , CNBC or do you just want people to cut only Fox News out."

A la carte means you can CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT.

Raziorizzo: "If people don't want to watch Fox News don't turn the channel to it ,block it on the cable box or shut you tv off."

But if you have cable, you're still paying over 75 cents to Fox News for something you don't watch. You shouldn't have to pay that if you don't want the channel.

Media Guy: "And just comming back from a conference--your site was the butt of jokes and reticule"

Nice English there! "RETICULE" LOL. No way you make a good living in any media-related industry!

Anonymous: "Heh, just to spite you, I'm going to go watch porn now."

Porn is fine -- having to either pay Fox to produce "news" with soft porn, or else live with not having cable at all, is not fine.

mikeT: "With few exceptions, no one is 'forced' to pay for Fox News. Your cable bill is not like 'death and taxes' - you don't have to subscribe. It might be a burdensome choice in many areas, but you do not have to subscribe to cable TV."

Is that acceptable consumer choice in a free market? Either pay to fund the Fox Crap Empire and get 100 channels, or don't pay for Fox Crap and be forced to have 8?

mrjohnson: "Anyone see the hypocrisy here? Has Pat Robertson infiltrated BNF and started calling the shots. Since when are liberals and Democrats the arbiters of decency??? Who cares if Fox shows suggestive images? Like Raziorizzo says: change the channel."

No hypocrisy -- no one's saying make Fox News illegal -- we just don't want the crappy choice of either having to pay for Fox to make the sh*t, or give up cable altogether. As consumer choice, it's a joke.

Dale Leisenring: "Take action and boycott FOX and its advertisers!"

Even if you don't watch Fox and don't buy anything advertised on Fox, you're still paying them as part of your cable bill!

Blue Collar Goddess: "How very Liberal of you! I know, let's start burning books too!"

I don't wanna burn books, I just don't wanna PAY FOR BOOKS THAT I DON'T WANNA READ. I don't wanna PAY FOR FOX NEWS, OR ELSE GIVE UP CABLE COMPLETELY. As consumer choice, that's a joke.

Christian Hertzog: "Censorship is censorship, and that's what you're asking us to do. Freedom of speech means we have to put up with Fox News."

No, that's wrong. Censorship is deciding what other people can see. This is deciding what I PAY FOR, even if I'll never want to watch it. I'm paying the paycheck of the guy who thinks it's a great idea to put t1ts in all the stories. You're paying his paycheck. We don't want what he's spewing. They're DEFEATING market forces to get Fox more money.

cj: "the lefty loonies do not believe in freedom of speech. The loons want to ban anyone who doesn't agree with them."

Do you actually think that's an argument? IS ANYONE SAYING YOU CAN'T WATCH FOX? These are the arguments the right comes up with. Know what? YOU'RE NOT SMART.

Kevin: "if you don't like what FOX is doing, DON'T WATCH!!! Turn the damn channel."

That doesn't work. Even if you never watch it, you're still paying them, unless you get rid of cable completely.

anna: "hate-the-military totally left-biased mainstream media"

We want to save the troops' lives, you want them to stay and get killed. End of story.

Anonymous: "VETERANS DAY IS THIS SUNDAY, NOV 11 FLY THE FLAG! SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE TROOPS!"

    Amen.

Raziorizzo: "I hope Hillary becomes President. It will be good for the terrorist. She will talk to them and reason with them."

    You're an idiot.

Raziorizzo: "'I hate being forced to pay for something I don't watch.'
Who is 'forcing' you. Get rid of cable. No one is forcing anyone to do anything. You control what goes on in your house not the cable company."

That's consumer choice and the free market? Either fund something you hate, or get 8 channels instead of 200? That's no choice. It IS the same for you and MSNBC. You should be able to do the same thing.

Raziorizzo: "Take the American flag down because 'someone' doesn't like it. Don't say 'Merry Christmas' because the person may get insulted."

Who the hell wants to force those things? It's almost no one, but the right blows it up like that's what all progressives want, and we're evilly gonna destroy Christmas and the American flag. It's a joke.

Fox offers T&A; to get eyeballs for advertisers just like every other channel. They're not stupid. But to cover themselves with a pretense of morality they say 'naughty naughty' with a barely disguised wink. The psyche of these folks is generally stuck around 7th grade maturity concerning sex. And/or so repressed they'll preach against sexual candor while diddling little boys in the back room or tapping toes in airport rest rooms. Hypocrisy is fundamental to their character. What's surprising is that so many take them seriously. It's a hoot.
BTW this is something of a red herring concerning a la carte, which I would like to see. But as the megacorporations that control the content on 98% of the TV have an agenda to make money at any cost to society overall, there's little chance this will change. It will be interesting to see how they take control of the internet as a means of content distribution. THAT's what net neutrality is really about, btw.
  • Marc Bookmeyer · 2 years ago
Sexual images, words, thoughts these all invoke sexual feelings. We all are human and crave sexual energy, if it is repressed and I can slip you some guilty-free nuggets of skin under the guise of news... might you come back for more? Of course you would deny this factor when you evaluate fox news, your mind would skip over sexual energy as unimportant non-factor... This influence goes unseen, but still influencing you.

I'm a progressive. But, no matter what side you're on, you're always going to be ashamed of your teammates. Fox News should live and die by the market. If the retards want to watch it and drool over Paris and her burger, and Bill's hectoring over the top puts them over the top, this is the foundation of our economy (scary) and well, if you like the first ammendment and democracy, you gotta lump it with Fox News, and not watch it, and not buy stuff that sponsors it.

To be pushing A la carte cable as a means to end Fox News is dopey. I'm sorry. I said it. If people watch it as part of their cable, and they buy a chinese menu style package from the cable company, don't you think that the red-tards are gonna pick the Fox box in the news column? Don't you think the horn dogs are gonna take the news with the most skin (never mind the sadness of people watching news for rocks offing).

A La Carte Cable is probably the end of a lot of things we like. Like BET. And E!. And Fox Sports (well, they're not better than the so-called Worldwide leader, but they're not really worse, either). And CSPAN2. And public access (if you haven't spent a Friday Night watching public access until 2 AM, you have no idea what I'm talking about... it's a great friday night in a big city like LA or New York). A La Carte sections the market and gives us less commonality to talk about.

Last thing. I dunno who these economists who suggest ALC pricing will lower prices are. When I did my MBA, our brilliant Managerial Economics professor (Martin Cripps, Bach, Master, PhD, econ, London School) suggested that you get people to buy stuff they aren't going to buy for a lower total price by bundling. When you break out the pieces, prices go up. Hell, when you get that catalog for the sausage company this winter, you can see A La Carte pricing versus bundles. Now, you might save by getting fewer channels. But, if you watch ESPN, be aware that it's the most expensive channel for a cable operator to carry, so it's going to be very expensive for you to carry. With a rightly unregulated pricing scheme, the stuff that's in demand will be priced appropriately, and, while you won't get Fox News because you're all right thinking people, you might get stuck with the same bill and fewer channels.

The only real option for a real American is what Real Americans have been doing all along. Steal cable and don't watch Fox News. It's the American way, along with not voting.

Can someone speak to the issue that a la carte will harm smaller, newer, and more educationally-focused cable channels which will now not have the resources to compete with the MTVs of the world? Will we lose The National Geographic channel because they can't pour a billion dollars into advertising like VH1 can?

    Good post!

BTW The post by Hollywood is correct--you go al la carte-say good bye to the smaller market channels like Nat Geo or HGTV, science channel they would be gone.
Your most expensive channel is not fox- it is ESPN and ESPN2 then come the regional sports networks like YES and others---like it or not, this is a crazy idea with lots of collateral damage---and people that watch fox will still keep it--now about 2 million viewers daily (people that watch more than 15 minute segments a day)

Your article makes a good point, but it loses credibility because you come off like asses. You complain about O'Reilly being pompous, but the writer of the article is every bit as arrogant as Bill. Also, the clip is unfair. You string together a bunch of clips over weeks that Bill put on the air. That makes it seem like he puts that crap on there more than he does.

Your hypocrisy is a delicious treat! You condemn Fox News for showing all of these images gratuitously, but you have done the exact same thing in your presentation. In fact, it's probably worse, because it is one long video of gratuitous displays. Keep up the brilliant irony!

Also, why is it that you are unable to solicit new channels of content without demanding that old channels be abolished? Is it that you are afraid that you couldn't compete in an open market? To be sure - CNN and MSNBC are as far left as Fox is to the right. By my count that's 2-to-1. And I saw that exact same Paris Hilton commercial on both of those channels! So what's your complaint exactly?

Admit it - you hate free speech because it means that people are allowed to offer thoughts and opinions that disagree with your own. Free speech is about ALL points of view, not just your own. For instance, I think you are an ass hat, but I still support your right to write whatever you choose. I *do not* support your opinions though. But I can do that, because I believe in truly free speech!

    So.. let's get this straight.

FOX can show tits and ass, yet moralize against showing tits and ass. "Here! look at this DISGUSTING PORN!! Aren't her huge, round tits just ABHORRENT?" This is basically what Fox is doing.

You want to call Cliff a hypocrite? Fox is the biggest one of all. Is that what Republicans do..? Do they take out the most vivid porn, and watch it all the way through, but all the time moralizing against it? "Oh, look at the size of that! As Jeeeezus is my witness, he should be nailed to the cross for that.. oh my lord, look at what he's doing with it now! How can she do that? This is immoral!"

And all this, while Right-Wing Christian groups want to BAN THE SALE OF PLAYBOY TO OUR TROOPS IN IRAQ. So it's cool that they get shot, but they cannot relax from the shell shock with some T&A;?

I have a satellite XM receiver--tonight driving home I tuned in 'Special Report' for the 1st time--I found no more or less bias than mainstream media that I tend to listen to. (usually ABC) The reporting was quiet good. I plan to watch it on a more regular basis now that I have listened to it. (TIVO-I get home late).

Now this is on radio so I can't comment about all the brew ha-ha on T&A; but it seems to me there are 100's of other channels to tune into. If T&A; is a problem, you should be railing against MTV and VH1.

As for Fox vs. whomever, I saw the same garbage on Paris Hilton the other day on MSNBC, which just, to be blunt, is tilted as far left as Fox is to the right.

That does not seem to bother Cliff or the other BNF writers.

To follow Cliff's convoluted logic, we should just have 1 station that this site and media matters agree with---To go ‘a la carte’ would most likely kill smaller franchises, and paradoxically would hurt MNSNBC even more because its ratings suck.

Sex sells--gee what a shock! I had no idea!!

This is a thinly veiled, transparent attempt to censor a cable channel you don’t like.

Freedom of speech cuts both ways Cliffy boy-and yes, you ARE a hypocrite.

See the latest from Fox NFL Sunday:

If you have not seen this segment from the 11/10 Fox NFL Sunday program you should watch.

    http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en-us&brand...

Jimmie Kimmel with Pacman Jones (suspended from the NFL for numerous law and league violations) on the phone from a set made to look like a strip club with two scantily clad babes, raining US currency, and Jones announcing this Sunday's picks . Fox, the self-appointed guardian of decency, family values and lookout for the war on Christmas. Frankly, I could not believe my eyes. You have to wander what Howie, Bradshaw and the rest really thought about the segment. But one has to remember who owns that network. Culture Wars - what a laugh!
  • Raziorizzo · 2 years ago

It's funny how hypocritical you guys are. You want the fairness doctrine but want to silence Fox. You support the troops and refuse to fund them. You want to win the war in Iraq and try setting a date for defeat. You worry about global warming and drive an SUV. There is no war on Christmas but want to change the name to Winter Holiday. You say the war is lost but we are making progress. Where do you stand? Where would you stand next month? 6 months from now? Next year?

Oh come on. I definitely agree that fox is a despicable corporation and things need to be done but is this the battle you really want to have? Fox is far from the only network doing this. This is a symptom of our entire media climate that makes news about entertainment. Focusing on something like this and making it seem like Fox's fault is exactly what they do all the time and it gives Brave New Films and Robert Greenwald a bad name.

I've very uncomfortable with this latest campaign about Fox's exploitation of sex on its shows. Sure, they're hypocrites, but what you're asking us to do is tantamount to censorship. This is very similar to the feminists going after the porn industries in the 1980s and sounding as bad as the Far Right on issues of sexuality and nudity. I consider myself a liberal and a feminist, and frankly I don't care if there is nudity and suggestive sexuality on tv. Let's not be hypocrites ourselves and demand free speech (in its multiple forms) yet try to censor Fox for its focus on sexuality. Come ON! There are more important battles to be fought.
    ______________
  • Dan Mortenson · 2 years ago
Jaron, what "battle?" The producers did not make this short in order to enter a direct contre-temps with Faux, but as commentary. Would you rather the video were never produced? Is slathering sex all over the channels "just normal" to you?

Pamela, let's be clear about what BNF is "asking" (I prefer the term "inviting") you to do.

The post on this page, by cliffshecter, doesn't tell, ask, or even invite action of any sort. You can only be refering to the link to a petition asking the FCC to require cable providers to unbundle their channels; which would allow you to not pay for the ones you disapprove of. (doesn't apply to me- I don't have an idiot box)

If you would view not paying for those channels as censorship of some sort, that's your call. But unbundling would follow the Free Market Ethic, to not pay good money for something you don't like.

What Faux's gratuitous sex is all about is keeping their viewership. It's in the book: to keep your "programmees" from using actual brain cells while watching, you continually appeal to their very basest levels of response (Jaron, this is for you too).

It's all very scientific, thanks to Joseph Goebels and fifty years of Madison Avenue. I know people who watch Faux just for this sort of stuff, and then stay for the propaganda. In Faux's case, it's also a fight for life, because their advertizers will bail if people quit watching.

Which is why you are being invited (by me) to go sign the petition.

All I can hope for, is they retain those values as they grow up..because when there on there Own...then there on there Own..the make there own choices, Like to CHANGE THE CHANNEL if they don't like whats on..its not up to me to decide for them at that age, the same as it's not up to you, or anyone to decide what I watch, or Don't watch, Were all adults, and it's to late to have someone teach us the Values we should already have by now...so my point here is..
I Will Decide, and no one has the right to decide for me, Like the seat belt Law..I Don't wear mine, it's my choice, and my right to decide if I will wear it..and I choose Not to.
So If I watch FOX, or Wear my seat Belt, or Listen to Rap, Watch the Playboy channel, or watch Real porn..My Choice, My Life.
and FOx has the Full American Freedom to show what they want, and how they want..and you have the Right to NOT WATCH IT!..don't interfere with my Rights, and what I do in My home.
There is a Porn shop here in the town I live in, and there is of course a road passing this shop, I don't try to have the road removed !!..I just don't go in the store, if I want to protest it.
and Like WalMart..I refuse to shop there..there are plenty of home town small buisness places here to get what I need.
If ya Don't like a Dodge, buy a Chevy, or Ford..
Don't try to Put Dodge out of Buisness because ya don't like what they make.
they are only one of your choices in life..Feel Lucky you have a Choice.
so have a Decent Life, Its up to you, and only you.
You Have Plenty of Channels to Choose from.
find one ya Like, and leave the other people alone with there choices, because I REALY DON"T CARE What you watch, thats your choice, and you will not stop me from watching what I want..It's My Choice
so have a Decent Life, Its up to you, and only you.

You are 100% right Rick. Couldn't of said it better myself. Do we want to go back to pre-cable times when we only had channels 2,4,5,7,9,and 11? If you don't like what you see , like you said, change the channel. You always have a choice. They should be happy they have a choice. Have a Happy Thankgiving and God Bless America

While I agree that Fox is hypocritical and ironic, I still don't want to have anything to do with attacking a broadcaster for showing sex. I wish more would do it. I wish Fox would stop being hypocritical about it, too, but this particular campaign seems to be aimed at getting advertisers to pull because of the sexy content, not because of the politics. I think that's wrong, so I oppose this campaign.

I fully support embarassing Fox by spreading that video, though. At least then the goal can be to get them to stop condemning "liberals" for supposed "depravity".

I see that that right-wing reactionaries that repsonded here didn't get your point: its not a question of changing channels but whether we should be forced to subsidize this filth. Of course, if they could have read well enough to understand your message, they probably wouldn't need to have their simplistic pap spoon-fed to them by FOX...

My apologies, but as much as I despise the Fox Fantasy channel and it's You Report, We Distort form of fantasy news; to ask anyone to
withhold advertising because of sex violates my principles, specificity that sex should be open and public, that it is a natural part of existence; our primary reason for existence (I don't believe
in any religious cloud people reasons for existence), and that there is not enough gratuitous sex on television. As such, I can not ask
them to withhold add dollars for that reason, especially when there ARE real reasons to withhold said add dollars, such as the FACT that
they do not report news, rather opinions, often with no factual evidence to back it, no fact finding, no investigation at all.

I have joined in condemning Fox so-called News for their blatant defense (in court!) of their right to lie on the air and call it news, for their hypocrisy, for being a right-wing propaganda machine, and for having the audacity to claim to be "fair and balanced"; but *I* would be the hypocrite if I condemned them for showing sexy images! Who started this "anti-smut" campaign coming from the liberal side? We're supposed to be anti-hypocrisy, not anti-sex!!!!

If I were to start complaining about what I have to pay for with my cable service, it would be all those stupid sports channels! AND Faux News - but because of their hypocrisy and hate-filled right-wing slant, not their use of gratuitous sexy images.
  • gothicsquish · 2 years ago
While I can't stand Fox, and despise hypocrisy even more, I also cannot be supportive of a campaign that also is asking for censorship, and using terms like "smut"

If you had come at it simply from the point that they were being hypocritical, I would be all for this.
  • Sarah · 2 years ago
Okay - there are a lot of people that are saying - "we're liberals, we're supposed to be FOR sex! this campaign is stupid!" Well, back off people. I'm as liberal as they come and I was seriously offended when they were reporting on the Daytona killer and playing shaking asses in bikinis next to the "serious" commentator. To me, the loud and clear implication was that Daytona and spring breakers are debaucherous so let's not feel too sorry for the people who are shot there. It's offensive. I'm all for sex and skin but it is wrong to put "girls gone wild" scenes next to serious news stories. I want advertisers to be aware of what they are supporting.
  • Bernita · 2 years ago
It's not about censorship or even about the smut, it's about the right of the people to pay for what they want, and not pay for what they don't want! I don't want to see scantily clad beach bunnies and buddies, nor do I want to hear or see the pompous blowhard aka Bill O'Reilly. So can I please choose my channels?!
  • justathought · 2 years ago
    Let's think this thing through...

Issue #1, Does Fox news portray itself in the same manner it describes itself?

Issue #2, Is soft core porn (or suggestions of such) acceptable for prime time television (my guess is if this were deemed unacceptable much of what is already aired would find itself off the 'idiot box')?

Issue #3, Does an anti-porn opinion make one a conservative or feminist? Or, to put the question another way, do you have to be pro-porn if you are a liberal?

These seem to be the issues with many of the commentators on this site. Americans love to give there opinion about issues and most of them conform to those already expressed because our 'culture' is what is referred to as 'mass culture', which in essence, confirms that even if we disagree the reasons cited are common vernacular.

I would challenge all of you to sit down and think about your opinions. First, are we all not hypocrites? Second, are we more than hormones and sex - and if not, what the hell are we doing living in organized, highly complex, societies? Finally, is this fear of censorship really the issue - are there other areas of media censorship that we are ignoring (I can't remember the last time a communist or anarchist received respectable airtime). We certainly don't air the number of international channels (or anywhere close) to the amount available. And please don't allow your brain to respond with the programmed, 'well noone would watch them anyway' response. The point is not whether someone would watch it, according to your argument, but whether if it is an option, then it ought to be available, even if no one would buy it.

If you don't like what FOX is airing Turn on a different station. No one is forcing you to watch it. (Or any other station)
  • Sammy P · 2 years ago
Its not about the smut. Porn is completely fine. What fox is doing here is promoting there station with soft core porn (which happens to sell really well) while denouncing to stay in line with the beliefs of the average viewer. This is some subliminal shit they are throwing at you. If you're focusing on the what the reporters are saying you don't necessarily realize "hey, why are they showing people partying on spring break while they're talking about a murder" Instead you get aroused while watching fox without realizing it and come back to it for news everyday since they always show some big ol' titties.

CNN is going with sex, too. They show naked Paris Hilton, painted in gold, and had to have shown her at least a dozen times AND they showed a clip of her tape (i think). They were on the subject so WHY NOT also bring up Pam Anderson for a few breast shots and the beginning of her sex tape.

Not only that, but the CNN host was like..."Great point, but we're running out of time and I have to get to this next add..."

As usual, liberals spate hate using erroneous statements and out of content material to try, try, try again to convince someone, who doesn't give a shit anyway, that they know what the hell they're talking about. (yes, it's they're and not their). If liberals spent as much time reading a cross spectrum of material instead of busting our balls by Bill bashing (say that fast three times), they might have a clue, and they may be able to carry on an intelligent conversation. Intelligent liberal . . . isn't that an oxymoron? Get a life, dummies!
  • Jomon · 1 year ago
It amazes that liberal refuse to believe that the moral decency and values of this country are unchanged, which is what they are implying when they beat Bill O'Reilly over the head for stating that watching Paris Hilton (ho-hum, with the emphasis on HO!) slither around a vehicle half naked is a ridiculous way to sell hamburgers. Why don't you liberal fools finally face the truth. It is a ridiculous way to sell a hamburger. Now was that so hard? If you agree, then there's hope for you yet. I have discovered through many hours of online chatting in political chat rooms that liberals have no clue what their candidates stand for. I would ask them during the last pres election what John Kerry's platform was. They would reply, "Bush looks like a monkey." That's downright embarrassing! When God was in schools, kids didn't carry guns or cuss out their teachers. Liberals have no idea what respect means. No idea what moral fortitude means. When did these things become 'undesirable'? And to use absolutely incorrect statements such as saying that the average viewer likes porn and sexy hamburger commercials is a sad representation of just how desparate - and unenlightened - liberals really are. They pulled the commercial very quickly, morons, when the 'real' average viewer spoke up. I don't partner liberals and democrats automatically. I believe there are many good democrats out there who are hoping that another John Kennedy will spring up from the political pool. Many democrats attend church. The loudmouths who are woefully ignorant are the Godless ones. And they are a minority. So, "who do you say that I am?", you sophomoric leftists? I am an average viewer. So grow up and deal with it. That "quote," by the way, is from the Bible. Maybe you should try reading it. I pwomise it won't burn your wittle eyes out. Don't be afwaid. I almost hope a dummocrat (meaning: a Godless, far left moron using the Democratic party as a means to achieve nationwide domination) wins the election. At least maybe, MAYBE, we stand a chance of at least a partial reprieve from your inane, uneducated, poorly-spelled spating. The way you go on and on about stupid, unimportant issues, (for instance, bad mouthing Fox News about reporting on unimportant issues) brings to mind my dog, which spends countless hours going around in circles trying to lick his ass. Maybe there is something to this THEORY of evolution. I am more and more convinced that conservatives were created by God. And liberals came from monkeys. If you respond to this, and like, posts . . . try and make some sense for a change. And see if you can complete an entire sentence using at least 1 BIG WORD, without a misspell, or without using the 'F' word. I (don't) think you can.

I am tired of people with closed minds. You democrats, like our democrats in canada, only like to see and hear things they agree with. I watch both CNN and Fox and I find the latter much more balanced than CNN. You people will find out what taxes mean when you finally get totol liberal government. You also will sadly learn what socialized medical system is...Particularily when you Doctors go on strike. You should know by now that government, any government, can not run a business or a service satisfactorly and yet you want everything from goverment without paying the price. I am retired and still I must pay over 50% in income taxes not to mention the provincial and federal sales taxes(nodte the plural). On top of that we have surcharges on almost every energy related purchase or user fees. All told. we are probably in the 70% totl taxes bracket.

I also find it weird that many feel captalism related only to big business....How about your Moviestars, tv celebrities , sport celebrities. they make more than maany of the captalists. Wake up and smell the roses...

Nice clips, edited and doctored to spin it in one point of view. It amazes me how ignorant people can be, to listen so closely to what others tell them, and they don't bother to fact check for themselves. Every fox basher I've seen doesn't even watch fox news, most likely because they're too afraid to prove themselves wrong after living in a world of liberal spin. Just ask Michael Moore. Believe his "documentaries?" People tend to believe everything they see on t.v. and the movies, especially when others tell them what they want to hear. Adolf Hitler knew this all to well. Long live fair and balanced. Long live fox news.
  • Alison · 1 year ago
Ewe, that's gross. And hey BOB, I'm not afraid to watch FOX news because I'm "too afraid to prove [myself] wrong after living in a world of liberal spin." HAHA, I choose not to watch FOX news because out of all of the major news stations FOX is the MOST biased - and obviously so.

Keep tuning into FOX, you're free to watch whatever you want. But, the thing that gets me is that people are too stupid/lazy to do their own fact checking and buy into everything the media tells them.

Maybe instead of trying to support a crooked news corporation on a web forum, try picking up a book once in a while. Not everything has to be so black or white, right or left - it is possible to find a middle ground. But that's only possible for people with atleast a half-brain, and Bob, I'm not so sure you fit into that category.

Some heated discussion here, eh? Despite what others have said, I have to assert that Fox news is not what one would call a nuanced, measured, and thoughtful analysis of national and world events. I'm a registered Independent, and I check in with Fox on occasion, but I can't say I'm ever very impressed. I'm no liberal, but compared to say, the BBC, wouldn't you agree that Fox is much more inflammatory and crude? These days I feel like I have to find my news overseas to get an objective viewpoint of our own nation's politics and the war in Iraq. I would agree that the videos on this site are spun, but I generally agree with their premise that Fox is not worth watching for a real examination of the issues. It's good for some laughs, I guess.

I don't mean to offend previous commenters, but in a truly respectful way, I would suggest checking out the BBC. Nothings perfect, but I stand by it as an example of a large news organization with a sincere ethic for balanced journalism.

Was it necessary for Fox News to have Hooters girls deliver buffalo wings during the weather report? They can deny what they're doing til they're blue in the face, but it doesn't change the facts. The embarrassing thing is that i subscribe to Sky Angel, a Christian satellite network, and Fox News is the only news carried. None of the other channels carried would show the things (including ads) that Fox News does.
