Guys--get a life--If you have nothing better to do then TIVO Fox and post idiotic posts!

You must continue by all means to EXPOSE the unbalanced crap that FOX puts on the air to Democrats, Independents and moderate Republicans. American’s aren’t stupid – they see through the lies when presented with them. I personally NEVER watch FOX so I have no way of knowing what lies they’re telling now. Fox News is a dangerous element in our society, in my opinion. It is propaganda passing itself off as "truth" or reliable reporting. The American public is manipulated by Fox News into bad choices. I like the fact that Robert Greenwald takes the time to show me how really bad Fox News is BECAUSE I never watch it, I do change the channel (Don't even GET that channel) so I appreciate the Brave New Films input. There are more people with their head in the sand, that don't know that they are watching lie, after lie, after lie, lies, and more lies. What Ann Coulter said about the way democrats view to troops is unforgivable! May you, Ann, be attacked in the same way - because it is YOU that hold these predjudice, not I.

No one on the face of the earth, including the people at Fox News, believes for one second that they are 'balanced'. They don't want to be. They have an agenda and it is obvious. Why Democrats bother to even 'try' to reason with this crowd is beyond me. Of course they should refuse to go on. To those who say that is giving them a 'free ride' at Fox, who cares? I would be very surprised if any 'regular' supporter of Fox News has EVER voted for a Democratic candidate for President!

Guys, I hate to burst your bubble but fox is a huge crossection of what this country is made up of. LAZY NON THINKERS. People who only hone in on one source of info. I have at least three friends and relatives who think fox news is the bomb. It is so entertaining. There are alot of haters in this country.And this is who fox targets. I would not give them the time of day.I spend alot of time calling my friends on their ability to fact check and be free thinkers.This is my way of dealing with fox the anti american propaganda machine.

FOX should be refused press credentials at any Democratic event, as they have shown they are an ENTERTAINMENT/PROPOGANDA channel and not a news channel.

Democratic candidates should pledge never to go on any Fox show, and not to appear at any Fox event.

Democratic voters should pledge not to vote for any Democrat that has anything to do with Fox, period, end of story.

The first post by FOX cracks me up. It they followed their own advice (and "changed the channel") they'd have nothing and no one to aim their slander at. Funny, on the other hand, we should follow that advice. Why don't we call for a massive boycott of FOX. It would have to have an impact, we (kind, liberal, thinkers) are in the majority!

In the Faux news world the war is going great, we'll eventually find WMD's,global warming is a hoax,Scooter Libby was found not guilty, Mark Foley is a democrat and the MSM is completely liberal! Sounds like a good idea. But then some media outlet would have to do a story on it explaining why non-demented intelligent people refuse to shown biasedly on Fox news.

I once saw a 'news' broadcast on the violence in Iraq after the invasion. One of the 'experts' held up a map of where the violence was occuring. Trying to show that the insurgency, resistance and ethic cleansins were really only occuring in less than 1/3 of Iraq. If he held up a population density map as well you'd see the areas highlighted by his map was where people actually live.
This is the unbiased and fair reporting we see. Deception and misinformation is the rule.

I can't stand watching Fox news. It drives my sense of morality and decency screaming.

I have been writing to my Democratic representatives for years, as well as the DNC to stop Democrats from legitimizing the FOX so-called news shows by appearing, but to no avail. The Democrats do not listen to their constituents, otherwise we'd be impeaching Cheney.

OK. It's this easy. Who bought the most commercial time around the Patreaus hearings? That person gets boycotted for the next 30 days. See if we can cause that company's sales to slip by just 1 or 2%.

Of course, if it was Halliburton or KBR or ADM, we can't have any impact on their sales, as they are just using the advertising buys to prop up their propoganda machine, because they don't actually "sell" to Fox viewers.

I am sickened by Ann Coulter's remarks that the Dems "hate the troops, think they are illiterate, toothless rapists..." As a former 'troop' myself and knowing many troops myself who are against this occupation of Iraq, it points out the absurdity of her statement. She is an attention hog and I guess outrageous statements like that get her where she wants to be (in the limelight) at any cost, including the truth. When FoX first was broadcast, I liked to watch it,but no more... it caters to the uneducated, extreme right fundamentalists, the screamers, the hate mongers and to those who cannot read between the lines. When someone tells me they get their news from FOX, I know exactly who they are.

Yes I can change the channel and I am fine, that still leaves these lying, propoganda artist on the air fillin ghte heads of the idiot who not only elected the worst president in History, but continue to support him still based on the lies they hear on FAUX news.

Call out the advertisers, ask them publically why they support this trash network! Put out some videos of the Head of Ford or Coke or whoever advertises on these rediculous shows and ask them why they support this hate America speech. Fox News says more hatefull things about Americans then any terrorist ever has.

Of course Democrats should be encouraged to boycott the Fox News channel, it's bias is discraceful, and has no journalistic credibility whatsoever. For Democrats to turn up on Faux News sadly gives this channel some form of credibility, but only for those incapable of independent thought...

As an avid news junkie, I sometimes force myself to tune into Fox, just to remind myself just how biased and intollerant this so called news channel is. I often wonder what the average IQ is of folks who tune into Fox to get their daily news fix...

I agree, if dems stop appearing on Fox News, the people who do watch and believe it will only be worse off. A boycott is the way to go. They need to stop calling it "news" and call it "news commentary" or perhaps "news skewed to fit our views and fed to you with a spoon."

I'm glad there's someone out there who serves as watchdog of the powerful FOX news outlet. Someone needs to call FOX on their lack of balance (which they claim to have) and to show them for what they really are: a vast right-wing propaganda machine.

They, who are the first to claim that the news media has a "liberal" slant, fail to see their's is more than just a "slant" but a mission for they seem hell bent on removing anything liberal or progressive or critical from the airwaves.

FOX must use Goerge Orwell's "1984" as their primer, and if we allowed them to get away with their censorship, (See Sally Field's acceptance speech at the Emmy Awards Ceremony) we would be living in an Orwellian World.

Because the First Amendment of the Constitution protects journalists, the media has a serious responsibility to present fair and balanced news. This type of unbalanced coverage creates a misinformed society that acts and votes without knowing what the issues truly are. Plus, the remarks from Ann Coulter (about Democrats hating the troops and thinking they are "illiterate, toothless rapists") were too vile to repeat in any media.

I'm opposed to escalation, but I think your analysis may be flawed here. You need to attack, not Fox News's 7-to-1 ratio in their presentation, but the assumptions underlying that imbalance. This is made explicit in your own clip: Near the end, you show one of the newscasters saying

"It looks like the adults are in charge, and that's a very important thing for our men and women in uniform."

That's what Faux News would like to convey: that withdrawal is a childish idea, and the warmongers are the adults. That notion justifies the imbalance of time. I mean, would you give equal airtime on national tv to (for instance) John Edwards and your 3-year-old daughter?

So I think you're attacking the wrong thing. Instead you should attack the misleading and/or altogether false statements and spin. And, though this may be harder to make stick, you can also follow the money and expose *why* Faux News wants to mislead the public.

I'm a student majoring in media here in Mexico, and it is a University class example, the distortion in FOX News' information delivery. It falls in the "what not-to-do" category in every single example they teach here. I'm not saying it doesn't happen elsewhere, but what FOX News does is just absolutely offensive to the common sense and a mockery to its listeners. What's worse, millions of people still watch FOX News not noticing. I mean, really, The Simpsons and Family Guy, who are on the same network (at least down here) make fun of the absurdity of the FOX News ways.
If anyone is going for news broadcasting: please, please, if you consider yourself a fair journalist, don't ever do this. See FOX News as the example to not follow. You'll be doing the profession, your colleagues and co-professionals, and the people in general, an enormous favor.

I would think anyone who isn't braindead would have realized by now FOX reports fictional "news" that's ideologically biased. Rather than advise liberal (i.e.- sane) Democrats or independent-minded Republicans who don't buy the Administration's blather to not appear on FOX- I think a better campaign would be to encourage both Democrat and Republican legislators (via email or grassroots organizations) to call for Bush and Cheney's resignation while defunding their war profiteering scam called Iraq.

I liked someone's suggestion to boycott companies that advertise on Fox news. I never watch Fox news and would like to know who the advertisers are. I would not only avoid buying their products, I would let the advertisers know it is because they support Fox news, which is anything but fair and balanced. Money talks, even with Fox. Where can I get a list of the advertisers without having to watch the program?

We must organize in masses. Make sure that all Progressives are united in continuing to put pressure on advertisers, boycott the station, write to local cable companies asking them to take the Fox station off of your cable, etc... Numbers talk and unless we are willing to do something collectively, we will have no effect on them whatsoever. Fox is never, ever on in my house and if I go into a sports bar, pizza parlor etc... and Fox is on I ask management to change the station or loose my business. They always change it. BE VOCAL, BE ACTIVE!

Everybody needs to start calling and e-mailing their sponsors and tell them you are refusing to buy any of their products because of their propaganda reporting and stand by your word don't buy anything from any company that advertises on Fox.

Democrats must appear on the Fox Opinion Channel if for no other reason than not set a precedent to be used later to exclude contrary opinions, legally, in the future. There is no law, statute, or regulation that requires FOX or any other network to tell the truth! That needs to be changed.

The "good news" is that those who swallow the FOX line consist mostly of the 25% +/-3% authoritarian archetype Republicans that John Dean first described in his book, "Conservatives Without Conscience," and has developed further in his new book, "Broken Government." When you understand this, you literally know who the enemy is and how you can marginalize that very dangerous voting block. The real worries are with the undecided, uneducated that could be drawn to the Dark Side. This is why, painfully, democrats/progressives/liberals must continue to endure the abuse on the various FOX Opinion programmes.

Tim is right. There aren't just a few nut bars watching Fox news. There are millions of people across America, and their kids, watching this "news". America is in a state of general apathy, lulled by the pap they are fed on Fox and the patriotic crap they are fed on a daily basis in most other aspects of their lives (schools, flags on every house - it's scary). Nothing will change until the people start to realize their country is failing horribly on all fronts. Nothing. The people who do care, they are in the minority. The rest - they simply chose to ignore reality because short of the Internet, where are most people to get decent and unbiased news? They aren't and it is safer being either dumb or intellectually lazy than to actually do something.

All I can think of on how to attack this neo-nazi channel is to go after their advertisers. Let them know how we feel about their "support" of this nutwork. But,I too, cannot stand to watch anything on Fox but the Simpsons so someone will have to continue to inform the online public of who is advertising and then we should take it from there.
Only the threat of a boycott of their products will wake these companies up. For you hit them in the pocketbook and they will listen.
As for Democrats going on FOX they should before they say anything inform the Tv audience that this network never allows the truth to over shadow the nutworks agenda...

I've been screaming at Dems, Liberals and even those that just might be objective, to stop going on Fauxnoise. Face it, you're only invited there so they can beat you down and whatever you say isn't going to influence their viewers one iota. So why bother? Boycott, ignore, don't talk about them, don't even acknowledge their existence. I've removed them from my TIVO selection list and am contemplating developing some of those 'can't be removed' day-glow windshield stickers - like the ones they put on abandoned cars along the Interstate - that say something like 'Friends Don't Let Friends Watch FauxNews' or, 'I Came In Here To Relax, Not To Have My Intelligence Insulted By These Bastards', and affix them to the screens of TV's in bars, restaurants, waiting rooms, etc. that are tuned to the '*' noise network. Of course you're probably gonna have to expect to be asked to leave, or get your ass whipped, or arrested, or something - but at least the point will have been made, and besides, the sooner we get the fight started the sooner we win. I mean bars that know they could be asking for a brawl just by having 'that' channel on, might decide it isn't worth it. Short of that, just ask them to change the channel...to anything, even 'I Love Lucy' reruns.

Beyond that, once Dems take over the White House, the first thing should be to overhaul the media ownership rules and reinstate the equal time thing, then we can get on with dismantling this bunch of bastards, scatter their asses and pour salt on the ground. I'd personally support deportation of Murdoch and worse for Roger Ailes, Hume and the rest - drawn and quartered would be near the top of my list.

Well, at the end of the video it says "do something" and what exactly are we supposed to do? Our representative government (which is actually voted in probably because Americans don't have much of a choice any more between yuck and yuckier) in reality does what it wants.

As far as FOX is concerned, if they get the viewership they'll continue to do what they're doing, won't they? Who can blame them for wanting to make money, both off the advertisers because of high viewership and in alleyway governmental deals for putting out the correct spin on things.

It's very simple. Raise the money, put a full page ad in The New York Times and a few other select newspapers. Maybe put a banner ad on Drudge or some other websites and launch a boycott of all the sponsors they have. Do the research, list out the companies/products and call for a boycott until they do a mea culpa and change.

The crazy thing is that they are getting away with this on public airwaves!! And obviously, don't watch the station!!

Better yet, turn off the TV!! It's all corporate run anyhow.

Major Fallon is releasing his report also, which completely contradicts General Petraeus testimony that the surge is working, blah, blah, blah, and the mainstream corporate media does not mention Major Fallon's assessment whatsoever. Fact is, 80% of Iraqis want the U.S. troops out of Iraq now, and want the numerous "secret" miliary bases built since 2003 to be closed, and 80% of all Muslims believe the U.S. invaded Iraq to control Iraqi oil (Iraq has 112.5 billion barrels of proven cruide oil reserves -- and gas as well, not to mention vast areas yet to be drilled) and to build military bases to stay in Iraq long-term. The U.S. government wants the Iraqis to pass a hydrocarbon law as one of the benchmarks that gives private U.S. and British oil companies ownership of most of Iraq's oilfields through long-term agreements, 80 known oil fields for foreign oil companies and 17 for Iraqis. The law Bush wants the Iraqis to agree to give the oil companies a seat on the Iraqi Federal Oil and gas council, and the proposed law would give foreign oil companies (US and UK) the power to let the oil companies approve their own contracts. HELLO!! Sounds like theft to me. The Iraqis have offered several plans for reconciliation, but they have been flatly rejected by the Bush administration AND Congress, including Patrick Leahy(who accepts the most APIAC money of any member in Congress) who called the Iraqi proposal unconscionable. In November 2005, the Arab League hosted an open-ended peace conference on Iraq in Cairo. This peace conference had the support of teh United Nations, the European Union, and all of Iraq's neighbors, as well as Russia. About 100 Iraqis attended the meeting, including Sunni, Shiite, and Kurdish leaders. The United States was the only major player who did not support the Cairo conference. No U.S. officials were present at the conference. The U.S. does NOT WANT TO LEAVE IRAQ AND THE CORPORATE MEDIA SUPPORTS THIS EFFORT TO ILLEGALLY AND IMMORALLY OCCUPY AND DESTROY THAT COUNTRY. This effort has been in the works not just since 2001, but for decades!!! The FOX's unbalanced network is a cheerleader and sounding board for the criminal Bush Administration -- the most corrupt administration in the history of this nation. FOX network needs to apologize to the troops they say they support. FOX cannot possibly support the troops or the Iraqi people since they continue to exclude the voices of truth while supporting lies and hatred of anyone contesting their position. Since positions contrary to support of the Bush administration are simply ignored, rejected, or censored, I propose boycotting FOX altogether. It seems a waste of time and counter productive in the quest of truth for alternate views to appear on FOX network.

I don't see any way to beat these money machines except through legislation. What we need are national standards for journalism and new FCC regulations for news programs. All public broadcasts should be required to meet these standards. If they don't, then they should not be allowed to use the word "news" and be required to post a permanent disclaimer, "For Entertainment Only" on screen (or frequent announcements for radio) so that every viewer will know they are watching an entertainment program -- not the news. Thus, entertainment shows such as Fox, Rush, Paul Harvey, and John Stewart would all have to carry the 'Entertainment' disclaimer and discontinue using the word 'news' in any part of their programming.

The problem is millions are watching Fox and being brainwashed and frightened by their version of the spin. Therefore, how do you reach those people, interfere with the programming, break the pattern, so that they can read between the lines and realize they are being fed lies.
How do you wake up a nation of sheep before they are slaughtered by the wolves, when they have been trained to sleep?
For each fact presented by Petraeus, my local paper countered with researched fact....kind of cool. The official version, and the truth.They went fact by fact. Perhaps that kind of intervention might be effective in some way..in films, ads, emails.

The idea that "National News" of any stripe is "news" is really a laugh! It is diatribe, pure and simple. Almost pablum. What is lost in the see-saw of ad hominum arguments is any semblance that corresponds to reality.

It's almost like the Disney-Generation somehow grew up believing that if brooms could walk and talk, and mice and ducks act like humans, then anything we're able to produce is "real."

If we "say" it...it must be "real."

So one side or another "says" whatever they want...and it therefore becomes "real."

All the PX's (us military suprmarts at Military Posts) are ordered to have Fox News on in their TV and appliance departments. Government (Bush adminstration) propagands is pervasive throughout America. It is so overwhelming as to make sensible americans to often feel hopeless.

This issue is not well understood by many Democrats, after all the Fox news insider mantra is "we must have a few token Democrats and secular liberals so we are not that obivious.

This discussion is interesting and critical as we approach the time of stolen elections. Other cable networks however fall into the same conditions often. ABS, CBS, NBC don't take a stand against FOX. PBS does in Bill Moyer's Journal and NOW. In fact they bring out the truth in such a way as for it to be scary, because you feel at heart its true and with such a truth, what can you do?

It's critical to keep the main thing the main thing; too often we are so outraged by this that our reaction is to attack Fox rather than to persuade the people who get their news from Fox.

Not all of the people who get their news from Fox are crazed nutcases, some are nice people who lack critical thinking ability. Why do they watch Fox? We need to find out. I suspect it's because it's entertaining, doesn't tax the mind much, and stimulates a little adrenaline in a dull life.

Brain research is demonstrating that humans are not the rational creatures we like to think we are, we actually make decisions based on our emotions. Liberals tend to make rational arguments; conservatives make emotional ones. It doesn't help the liberal cause to further inflame the emotions of liberals about things like Fox; what would help is touching the emotions of the people we need to persuade and inform. We need to get smarter about how to do this.

The FCC supposedly has power to see that the public airwaves are used responsibly. That hasn't been done for decades under both Republican and Democrat regimes. I personally never watch Fox (maybe a football game but I'm trying to give that up). I hope the advertiser campaign works--Fox only understands money, and its owner is a top-rank money person. Actually, Fox is a laughing stock accept among those who only want to hear that very crooked slant. Let them drown in their own vomit.

It was shocking to see the screen go black when Sally Field had her say about the state of the world. I make it a point never to watch this cesspool of a station but we wanted to see the Emmies. Critical thinking is on the decline. There seems to be quite a retinue of those who refuse to open up their minds and hearts and consider something different then spoon-fed junk. Fox sucks! I don't watch it and am proud to say that I know no one who does. I support independent radio and independent television, and we have much more interesting debates in my household than those on Fox do, you can bet on it. Boycott FOX. In a land that encourages -ahem- so-called free speech, I guess they have the right to be, but we don't have to participate in it. I guess when all is said and done, it's better to know what the fools are up to.

Kicking at Fox is like not buying a copy of a newspaper -- negligible effect. The key is advertising revenue, the only thing Rupert Murdock really understands. So why not add easy posts directly to Fox advertisers on these egregiously slanted segments? If Pillsbury appears during these segments, then put a quick-comment link directly to Pillsbury (copy to you guys, if you want). We need the major organizations that are trying to return common sense to this country to JOIN TOGETHER into organizing a *MASSIVE AND EFFICIENT* boycott of the FOX News (and any other of their talk shows - anything with Bill O'Reilly and his sidekick Ann Coulter, for sure (I can't believe that woman - she shames our gender).

I don't ever watch FOX anymore; therefore, I don't know which advertisers support their policy of venom and hatred. Like so many others said in their posts, it turns my stomach to listen to them.

My husband is a trucker. He says that most truckers listen to FOX (main channel in every motel room and truck stop)and believe everything they hear.

One thing that conservative America understands, no matter what, is its bottom line. If we would really conduct a sustained boycott for as long as it takes, advertisers would end up pulling their ads from that station. FOX would have to adjust.

I totally support these idiots freedom of speech, but when it is presented as news reporting, it has to be acurate. FOX News has nothing to do with news. It has to do with presenting opinions as news.

Clearly the un-american propagandic nature of Fox News is now understood by a majority of Americans otherwise we would not see polls suggesting that 60-70% of the populace believes that Iraq was a mistake. So true to our market driven society we need to;
1) boycott all those manufacturers that advertise on Fox
2) make sure the advertisers know that they are being boycotted.
3) place Ads in major newspapers (that murdock doesn't already own) stating who the advertisers are, ask for a boycott and explaining why fox prpaganda is so unamerican
4) encourage ALL politicians to refuse to participate with Fox due to its unamerican propagandic nature regardless of which side of the issues they may be on.
5) As soon as politically possible create (replace) laws limiting media ownership

Since the record of this "event" was clearly recorded and sliced and diced for this analysis, perhaps BNF could also post an analysis of:

1) The advertisers who did advertise during the event.
2) The advertisers who generally advertise on FoxNews.

Give the people here what they are clamoring for - the economic information to hit the network in the only place they care about - the pocketbook.

IF the much ballyhooed %'s regarding those who watch and don't are true, they'll have to think long and hard about losing the business of those who let them know they will dump them, even if they do not watch Fox.

Going on FOX is giving creditibility where none exists. We also need to re-instate the law that requires Fairness in reporting. Those uninformed fox-watchers do not even know that 80 percent of the hijkackers who killed us on 9/11 were Saudis and that Iraq had nothing to do with those attacks. Pitiful.

I rarely watch FOX and when I do, I have no problem changing the channel when they get too absurd. May I recommend you do the same before you have a heart attack over them? They aren't worth the aggrevation. Do what you have to do to stop them getting too out of hand; just don't get upset about it.

This sums up the journalistic "ethical" integrity of this "News" network. During the 2004 election cycle I recall watching a talking heads "debate" that included Ann Coulter and the typical strawman liberal. At one point Coulter asserted to the effect (not gonna call it a quote as I did not record it) that it was entirely fine for a political candidate to LIE about their opponent and it was then up to the target to counter it. As has been previouly stated, there are too many citizens who sit and listen to the diatribe coming from Fox News. No one thinks about or questions the legit of today's news because in most cases the reporters think themselves and political analysts rather that reporters or investigators. Furthermore they must answer to the owners not the public. With the stand the FCC has taken this will continue until the Fairness Doctrine is returned. Please...don't believe for a minute that FOX "News" is harmless. Like someone said earlier, they are a propaganda machine calling themselves news. They have the right to say whatever they want, but cloaking themselves in the label of news... translated to "the truth"...is hardly harmless.

When you know that the majority of people who watch FOX as their primary news source believe 1) Iraq was responsible for attacking us on 9/11, and 2) weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq...doesn't that scare you??

Granted, people should take personal responsibility. But most of us get news from one, maybe two places. People who landed on FOX News are being fed lies and prejudice (like Saddam Hussein and Bin Laden were in cahoots, all immigrants are thieves and rapists, the Patriot Act only affects bad people, etc.)... basically hatred of anything not white and not conservative.

It's dangerous. They have a right to broadcast what they want but they should be forced to change their name to FOX Commentary.

count me in on boycotting fox and all its advertisers. perhaps moveon.org and some of the other activist groups can all band together to put the word out. we will need a list of all the fox stations and all the advertisers. (i know, i know, it is difficult to give up simpsons and family guy, especially when the new season is starting. but, hey, GROW UP!! we all have to make sacrifices to bring change about. when do you think was the last time robert greenwald got to watch family guy?). it would be great if family guy ad simpsons would stop selling out to fox, and let another station pick them up...

Since FOX has blurred the line ( actually obliterated it) between actual journalism and editorial propaganda they need to lose their designation as a NEWS organization. This needs to be done in the most public forum possible to force awareness of the issue to the top of mind for the entire country. They would have to redo the brand, logo and slogan to reflect their new status. FOX OPINION.
Or they can play by the established rules of journalism. Which of course they won't. If they refuse the new designation, yank their broadcast license.

To stop going on the Fux News channel is to let the propagandists win. However, to sit and take it for 7 out of 8 minutes isn't the answer either.

Maybe a harassment call campaign? Callers make friendly with the screeners until they're put on the air, then go gonzo like the Howard Stern prankers? Or better yet, actually ask a genuine question. If enough people get cut off by the producers and hosts for asking questions or pointing out lies or bias, it seems the broadcasts would be disrupted enough to get notice.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure there is anything we CAN do. Since we call ourselves a democratic society, FOX is entitled to run the "news" as they please. If they were the only news source, we could claim it's a monopoly and unfair. However, there are many other news sources from which we can inform ourselves. I don't think anyone can claim that FOX is as reputable a news source as say MSNBC or CBS. However, to deny that many Americans watch it would be naive. We can only hope that it is not their only news source. It is every American's duty to try to get information from all sides and come to their own conclusions after heavily weighing all the facts and opinions. I realize I am being naive in thinking that people actually do this. Ultimately, FOX can hide behind the 1st amendment which they have the right do. Unfortunately, many people support them and it is to the detriment of this country if people do not seek out other sources.

I plan to start a letter-writing campaign immediately to each of one of them telling them that I will no longer do business with them while they support Fox News. Fox News should always be referred to as a Republican conduit (such as "Fox News: The Conservative Commentary Channel"). So, for example: "Tonight on MSNBC, CNN and Fox News: The Conservative Commentary Channel..." This is always how Fox should be referenced until it becomes a part of the vocabulary and automatic.

I have come to believe that the reason people watch Fox is that they don't really want NEWS.

The people in this country are feeling so demoralized and helpless that they are searching for some way (or some ONE) to tell them that "everything is OK. We're doing the right thing.

We are 'Fair and Balanced' after all, so when you get home from work at the job you hate, that pays crap because the good jobs have been 'outsourced' and you and your family sit down to watch the news....we'll make you feel better about what you can't control anyway."

The people that I have come across that are truly outraged are those that have taken the time to inform themselves.

Not everyone HAS that time. Not everyone wants to TAKE that time.

Do you really believe that 30% of the voters in this country support Bush? I don't believe it.

I am retired. But I remember the working days when I had a couple of kids and a mortgage (and THAT'S a whole other story right there!) and my wife and I both had to work because we were just middle-class Joe Six-Packs.

We watched the news only as a preamble to the sit-coms that took our minds off of the daily grind.

That "Person" is still out there. Yes, there is the internet... but that's a recent development that is gaining popularity. That's why the Gov't and the MSM are attacking it. They can't control the message on the internet.

Although the Internet has the potential to be our salvation, I see Big Media and tel-coms and Cable getting their way in this country and limiting what we will be able to see and do on line.

Besides, the mainstream user age is still fairly young and, without leadership will not become a factor in politics in time to avoid the controls the government will slap on us.

Robert, I applaud what you and your folks are doing.

But, if you don't believe what I'm saying, just think about the MoveOn ad. MSM went NUTS. They are going to take this kind of thing (and the truth YOU put out) and point to it as a cause clebre for the "tightening of controls" on our freedom of speech.

Look at Insane McCain! He not only didn't like the MoveOn ad, he wanted them "kicked out of the country!"

THIS IS A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE! And no one slapped him down.

I'm sorry to whine. I don't know where to go from here. But I do know that the solution comes from first understanding the problem.

I want to be part of "the solution" not part of "the problem."

I heard a report that FOX is losing viewers by the minute. Perhaps it's because most Americans are awake to the fact that the words FOX and News don't belong in the same sentence. For the few who continue to swallow the propaganda dished up by FOX, there is no help. These are people who, like the president, only want to hear things that fit their world view and the truth has no place in that scenario. Fortunately, they are few and getting fewer. Sadly, we must wait until January 2009 before our national nightmare can even begin to be over. Until then, who cares what garbage FOX spews? Hardly anyone is watching anyway.

Here's my two cents worth. FOX News is being completely irresponsible and should be "shown the door" so to speak. Eliminate them as a "news source" by eliminating them from the airwaves. The use of the Public Airways is a right that carries responsiblities to the American Public. If Fox News and frankly any News organization is being irresponsible they should have their broadcasting license revoked and not allowed to use "America's Airways". I am not favoring censorship, but offering a course of action to curtail blatant lies and propaganda from being distributed to a public less willing to become educated in how they are being manipulated.

P.S. I had only heard of Ann Coulter before I saw this video. Now I understand why so many despise her. What a venomous, nasty, attention grabbing whore. You sell it Annie!

Yes, I think we should encourage liberals and Democrats to stop going on Fox and I think they should do it with pride and dignity and not give in to the inevitable slanderous remarks Fox and the repub's will use to taunt them. Remember what our mother's taught us - the bully's won't win if we simply ignore them.

Personally I've done like others here have done - I don't watch Fox (or as my fav newscaster calls it "Fox Noise" or Fix News") at all.

Short of violence I don't see anything more we can do though. I try to boycott the products that advertise on Fox, but personally I live on disability and I'm in the middle of the 2-year contract with Verizon. I won't go into how mad I got when two days after I got my phone they announced that Verizon was one of the companies 'letting' them tap our calls!! Yes, I'll be switching when my time is up, but who do I switch to? AT&T; is in there too.

To the best of my knowledge I don't deal with Ford Motor Company, Chattem, Inc, Citibank, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Overstock.com, Reckitt Benckiser Inc., General Motors, The Coca Cola Company, Sears, DaimlerChrysler, Carat USA, Starcom, MediaVest, MediaEdge, MindShare, AT&T;, PHD Detroit, Dodge Magnum/Dakota, LifeScan, Inc.
Levitz, Capital One, Slim Fast, Taco Bell, Blockbuster, or KIA.

I believe that Pfizer may be a drug company and I don't know if they manufacture any of the med's I'm currently on so I have no control over that.

Procter & Gamble makes so many things its hard to know what I may need that they sell.

Admittedly I do use Kraft Foods on a fairly regular basis though, and Verizon I've already covered.

I don't know what Optimedia is, but if it has anything to do with eye care - say manufacturing things that eye doctors use - again, I have no control over that.

Recently I purchased a Toyota and I did it because in Consumer Reports, it is ranked as one of the top best cars available. I'm not about to give it up, but I certainly don't need to use Toyota's services to have work done on it!

I think for most of us its safe to say that the list of advertisers boils down to just a few that we each need/use/use and don't know it. As much as I hate Fox for knuckling under to the neocon's and showing only what 'certain people' want them to show, there are a HUGE conglomerate who are not likely to be hurt by boycotting in the least. They probably have enough money to BUY most of the companies listed, or if one actually does pull their advertising, Fox would just go elsewhere.

Ummm, Fox is bad - um'kay? I agree that pressure on the advertisers works. Hit 'em in the pocketbook. Run legitimate smear campaigns on Murdoch, Bush, Cheney and the like. Just tell the truth in 30 second commercials and run them. Don't make them too complex - or too much information too fast. A few carefully orchestrated points with powerful pictures. It's called propaganda - and it works. The 'publicans use it, just as Goebbels did for the Nazi party. The key difference is Democrats can use the truth in the form of propaganda. It will work just as well. And by the way, try Bush and Cheney for treason. And why is everyone acting like Bush is President anyway? According to the Constitution, he is a sworn-in sqatter in the White House!

We are only influenced by the stimuli we allow into our own consciousness. Fox's biased 'news'is only one flagrant example of what television generally has been allowed to become. Karl Marx called religion the "opiate of the masses." In our time television has replaced religion in that role. Fortunately, there is a very simple solution to FOX, CNN, ABC or any other television network having too much influence over our thought processes. Every single television sold in the world comes with an "OFF" button. USE IT ONCE AND LEAVE IT THAT WAY! Drape a nice piece of fabric over the TV and place a potted plant on top. Or better yet remove it from the house altogether.
Then go outside and see what real life has to offer. You'll be amazed.

The strategy is simple.

1. Ignore FOX. They are the paid agents of the corporate/fascist movement that's working to undermine our democracy. We know that. So let them undermine their own credibility, and ignore them.

2. Don't go there.

3. If any OTHER so-called news organization cites FOX as the source of any story, or repeats a story that FOX made up without attribution, jump on THEM with both feet. Challenge them to act like a news organization. Some may be thinking that repeating stuff FOX made up IS acting like a news organization, since the practice is so common these days. Educate them on their responsibilities.

4. Boycott. Let any company that advertises on FOX know that they are thereby losing business. They may care.

I read it. I hear you, and I feel much of the same. I, too, hear the outrageous statements, such as the example you gave with McCain's. And I, too, am in disbelief that none of the interviewers ever challenge any of them when they make these so totally un-American statements.

Bill Moyer just published his "Buying the War". I don't know if you saw it, but even NBC did a short piece on it. "Buying the War" is an incredibly powerful piece of journalism; it is an expose of the conservative right media (not just FOX).

The tide will turn, but we must not get discouraged, and we must never stopped fighting it. Actually, we must steep up our efforts and determination --- because "they" will; they've already started. (Murdoch is getting his thick fat fingers into the Internet market.)

Those who advocate to ignore FOX are asking us to ignore the fox in the hen house. He will stop only after the last hen is dead unless we do ssomething to stop him. Murdoch is the FOX. FoxNews is his WMD on our freedom.

The sad thing is that average people are dealing with their own stresses and struggles. Juggling two or three or more part time jobs, struggling with day care, their child's education, their health and/or lack of health care, trying to keep their children safe and in school. Do they have time/energy to care about Fox News? Do they have the skills/will/energy to make a difference? Do they care when they don't even have cable to watch the news, or the time to watch it while they are overwhelmed with trying to eek out a living for their family?

Yes...Fox News is an abomination. I'm a Canadian. We have Fox News in Canada. I don't watch it and I take every opportunity I can to slam Fox News. I try to be informed. From Canada, there is not much I can do, except turn the channel.

Does anyone have any concrete suggestions of what we Canadians can do to help?

The person who says "turn the channel" has a good sense of humor, but not much (if any) social conscience. The point is not whether we "enjoy" this kind of "yellow journalism" or not. The point is that most people go to the "news" for their EDUCATION, and when an alleged "balanced news" show is so vehemently slanted, and CAN influence an unsuspecting audience of millions who simply don't know they're being manipulated, this is DANGEROUS.
The person who says "get a life", and "change the channel" must be very happy with the way things are in he world today. That person must be happy with how the current administration is consistently stripping away our Constitutional Rights, must feel completely fine about that fact the we're even IN Iraq, let alone how things are going there,(since it was THE NEWS that convinced so many of the lies that allowed the initial invasion to take place), and must not care whether we are driven into Iran. Because, folks, it's THE MEDIA that influences public opinion and eventually legislative policy. Whether we like it or not, "news" and "polls" driven information is the world we live in. So Brave New Films has decided to *do something* about it. Personally, I'm grateful to them, and I say PLEASE CONTINUE and get as widely distributed as you can. Please provide the "counter education" that is so sorely needed in this country - in hopes that we don't become a police state, or worse, an out and out dictatorship. I think a group of investors should be organized to buy shares in companies advertising on FOX. This group would then attend stockholder meetings (en masse if possible) and complain, as stockholders, about the ill effects of effectively endorsing FOX's storylines. For example, by showing up at Home Depot's annual meeting as a stockholder, one could complain directly to the board and investors that Home Depot's GREEN marketing is directly undercut by funding FOX's anti-environment stance. Shareholders also have the right to talk directly to Stockholder Relations, which is much more responsive to your comments than is Customer Service.

An expose is no more to be a trusted POV than any bias. By it's nature it is one-sided, and therefore highly suspect.

I agree with 2 statements made more than once above: 1. If we punish Democrats for going on Fox, there will be NO way for the lost souls who watch to know that there is another, better, way; 2. Hit the pocketbooks of the advertisers.

I would love to see a campaign against Ann Coulter showing her hateful face on the media waves any where at any time. Can we bring litigation against her for lying about our thoughts, feelings and opinions about our brave troops??? Or, we could just throw rotten produce at her...

I don't know what to do about Fox's right wing propaganda. At first, I didn't realize when watching the Emmy's I was on Fox and was shocked at their censorship of various respectable people. Once I realized it was Fox, I turned the channel and realized that their cancerous views were seeping into regular programming. The kind of people who insist on listening to Fox's spin on what is happening are not going to change nor believe anything else. They are narrow minded, one information source kind of people and will vote accordingly (right wing Republican). These people have already drank the koolaid and won't tolerate other views. I participated in watching Fox News and recorded all the sponsors so I could boycott them, but when I got to Bill O'Reilly, I couldn't take anymore. Also, any station that would have Ann Coulter on is just as sick as she is. I refer to these kind of people as a cancer that is killing our country. Unfortunately, we cannot perform surgery and cut them out.
The only actions available to us are loud protests and boycotts of both Fox News and their sponsors.
I hope someone can come up with something else more creative and effective.
FYI: I boycotted Home Depot AND China by returning a light fixture and telling the low-level person why I was returning it and she just looked at me blankly thinking I was a nut. I told her to be sure and tell her manager why, but I doubt it went any further. We need to affect them financially as money is the only thing that matters to these kind of people, but unless the boycotts are done on a large, loud scale they won't even notice. Thank you for all your efforts!

You're right, Jesse. It is my bias that news reporters and news organizations report the truth, in all of its shades. I, actually, insist on it.

It is also my bias that freedom of speech is respected. That is why forums such as this one allow people such as you to do counter-influence on their members. (At FOX, O'Reilly yells at people who disagree with him to shut up and get them off the air in a nano-second.

FOX and other news organizations spend millions upon millions to propagate support for their agendas, using any lie they or the Republican Administration invent. That's what I oppose -- not their opinions (as ruthless and short-sighted as it may be). I oppose the lying and twisting of the truth.

When someone like Bill Moyers come along with a counter-piece that exposes them in their *lies and bullying*, I can't stop myself from applauding.

Really, Jesse, you should see "Buying the War" before you comment on it.

The FOX station gave the Hawks four times the time interval allotted to the Doves – (approximately) 12.x to 3.5 – thus showing that they are clearly on the side of further attacks. I do not know why they are thus aligned; but the thing I'd prefer to do is to strengthen our own points of view.

To the very first person's comment. The crux of the matter is that Fox claims to be a News Channel, an agnostic news channel. If Fox came out and said they were a Right Wing Propaganda machine, then there would be no issue...another analogy would be if there was a White Supremist Station, you would simply not watch it, becuase they clearly stated what they stand for, but if a news station marketed itself as a true agnositc news station but all it played was clips marketing white supremecy, everyone would have an issue. The same thing applies here...Fox should not be allowed to call themselves a News Station, since by default that means objective news coverage and clearly with all the lies that they have spewed, this is not the case.

Fox is not news but propaganda. They are exactly what Danny Schechter is addressing in his book- The Death of the Media. With the death of legitimate, investigative journalism will be democracy itself for the two are irrevocably joined. The comment of the viewer to just "Turn the channel." is representative of the ignorance of so many Americans who are too lazy and/or too opinionated to see anything but the projections of their own egos. History will record how a mighty country fell into a hypnotic, self-imposed delirium and faded from the world. It's sad!

I feel strongly that the ONLY way to deal with FOX News is to continue to highlight and speak out against its tactics. FOX News’ credibility has taken a big drubbing thanks to Outfoxed, Brave New Films, Media Matters and, at the risk of patting myself on the back, News Hounds and other blogs. Before Outfoxed came out, nobody was talking about FOX News bias. Now, it is a mainstream issue.

Obviously, more needs to be done and I argue that we need our Democratic and liberal leaders to challenge FOX News directly. Yes, instead of denouncing MoveOn, they should be denouncing the so-called “fair and balanced” network that demonizes them at nearly every opportunity in ways both overt and sly.

As anyone who has dared to suggest this to me knows, I am positively adamant to the point of apoplectic that a boycott of FOX News will never happen and that any such “movement” would be counterproductive. In the first place, as long as FOX News gets good ratings (and let’s face it, the sorry fact is that it still does), politicians and others will go on. Dennis Kucinich is a regular guest, Charles Rangel has been a repeat visitor and even the FNC-vilified Barack Obama agreed to an interview with FNC’s Carl Cameron last week.

Secondly, even if all liberals boycott FOX, that would not deter the network from spewing its deplorably partisan messages. I’m not sure where the left got the idea that if they just turned their back on FOX, it would be outed as the propaganda machine that it is. Where is the evidence for that? In John Kerry’s refusal to dignify the network by refuting its Swift Boat lies? In the lack of voices telling them that it’s the war, stupid, not the MoveOn ad?

Even if the network is (further) exposed as tripe that not mean that people won’t be paying attention to it. Rush Limbaugh is nobody’s idea of neutral or even journalistic but he still carries a lot of clout. Even worse, look at Ann Coulter. Is there anyone other than a FOX News fan who takes her seriously? Yet, she gets air time not just on FOX, her column is in mainstream newspapers, her books are put out by major publishers and sold in national chain stores. On the other hand, when Elizabeth Edwards gracefully and courageously called Coulter on her vile tactics on Hardball, it got national attention, there was a spike in Edwards’ fundraising and real attention was paid to Coulter’s contemptible methods.

In fact, there has already been a Democratic boycott of FOX News. Democrats have withdrawn from two presidential debates, thereby putting an end to them. Satisfying, yes. But the Democrats made hardly a squeak about the bias on FOX – even though much of it is directed squarely at them – once they withdrew. How much has FOX News’ credibility been damaged in the resulting silence since? If there is to be a boycott, it would have to be loud and public, the way, say, the boycotts in Selma occurred. What are the chances that Democrats are going to do that? Slim to none, in my book.

So in my view, our efforts would be far better spent in urging Democrats to speak out against FOX, whether they go on or not, and to create an army of spokespeople who DEMAND to go on and know how to deal with what they will face. No, they won’t get a fair shake but they should expose that, publicize it elsewhere if they get sandbagged and know how to get out an authentic and proud progressive message under the adverse conditions they will undoubtedly face.

Besides FOX News’ bias, another sad fact is that many, if not most of the Democratic and progressive guests do a miserable job that can’t be blamed entirely on the unfair setup. Some spend more time sucking up in the mistaken notion that being friendly to the likes of Sean Hannity will prevent him from smearing their Party or their politics. Others think they are there for a real debate and get sandbagged by the political theatrics FOX News specializes in. Few seem to take the time to study the tactics of their “enemy” and adjust their own accordingly. Those who do, excel. I created the “top dog” category on News Hounds to prove that it can be done. Rep Charles Rangel, Jon Soltz of VoteVets.org and Democratic strategist Jane Fleming Kleeb are a few of the consistently excellent guests we have honored.

Most viewers of Outfoxed remember young Jeremy Glick, son of a 9/11 victim, who so flummoxed Bill O’Reilly that his “Shut up!” became part of the national lexicon. In his Outfoxed interview, Glick explained that he prepared for his interview by studying the show – to the point of using a stopwatch to figure out how much time he’d have to talk. It’s disgraceful that professional Democratic pundits who make a living opposing people like O’Reilly can’t be bothered to make the same effort.

If the Democratic leaders and spokespeople do their jobs well, I believe we have the muscle and liberal-message infrastructure to get the message out. Jeremy Glick gained prominence via Outfoxed, not FOX News. He stuck in viewers’ minds because of his dramatic confrontation with O’Reilly. Glick would never have had anything close to the same impact if he had boycotted O’Reilly and had simply explained to the camera why. Just as with Glick, with the phony Obama “madrassa” story, with John Conyers being "mistaken" for William Jefferson, we have proven to have the muscle and liberal-message infrastructure to get the message out whenever a Democrat is treated unfairly. But we need them to work with us.

I think we have a much greater chance for success in trying to prod them into doing their job better than we do at getting them to turn their backs on what they consider an important outlet for them.

Sorry for the long post but this is something that I have thought about, even obsessed over, for more than three years, since I first had my eyes opened by working on Outfoxed.

I oppose a boycott of FNC by Democrats and their supporters; it gives FNC more opportunity to accuse us of being scared, thus providing them with ammunition.

Boycott any sponsor of anything broadcast by Fox - not just the news channel, but anything connected with News Corporation (Google "Rupert Murdoch to find out how many media companies he runs).

To the lady in Canada, I'm in the UK and I boycott anything owned by Murdoch (who also failed to serve in the Australian military, despite them having conscription at the time).

Finally, lobby your Federal lawmakers for a legal requirement for "fair and balanced" - the equal time provision is the answer - if they are forced by law to give Democrats equal time people will at least hear their arguments.

After all this, yes, turn the station off - if everyone here gets their sympathetic family and friends to switch the FAUX news channel off then there will be a significant downtick in its viewing figures making it much less attractive to advertisers.

Finally, spread the word - write your local newspaper, call your local talk-radio, argue your case, don't let people believe that the FAUX word is the only word in town.

Forget Faux News and stick to PBS, and C-Span for real information and Olbermann's "Countdown" for hearing someone speak truth to power and Bill Moyer on PBS Friday nights. Then supplement those daily with Truthout and Factcheck on the internet. Add NPR and Air America Radio (the latter admittedly liberal)for radio listening and then top it off with Jon Stewart's "Daily Show"..and take time to read Newsweek and The Nation. This website and Newshounds ("we watch Fox so you don't have to") do a good job of monitoring the Fox False not Fair news. Husband and I are both 75 so have seen a lot, but Fox -- which I watched for awhile until O'Reilly and Hannity made me sick--is absolutely on the bottom as far as balance and truth ... they are not a even a news network but an unbalanced right wing opinion network!

Let me start out by stating the obvious, Fox sucks. With that being said they are a force to be reckoned with as far as cable news networks go. As long as democrats, independents, or any non-neoconservative go on the programs offered on Fox they will be unintentionally giving credibility to the network. As long as Fox has credibility they will be a strong force. To take away this credibility all non-neo cons need to loudly refuse to have anything to do with the network and state why, making sure to point out some of the glaring atrocities committed by this horrendous network.

Ann Coulter is so far out there that she will eventually trip herself....let her...same for Fox. I was surprised that G.W. was elected or selected the first time and shocked that people didn't realize that by voting "against" Kerry that were re-electing the same person who had been saying for years he would do for America what he did for Texas while Governor. It is always a bonus to know what the far right is saying. Hear it and file it away. You can't change stupidty if "they" won't think! Isn't it time we questioned the motives of the Australian millionaire, Rupert Murdock? Where do his allegiances truly lie? Certainly he has proven that he wishes to promote a highly conservative ideology, but does he truly have the best interests of the United States at heart, or does he prefer to undermine the idea of clear and open debate that is one of the basic tenants of our democratic society.

P.S. whenever I stay at a hotel or motel I always use the remote control to remove FUX from the channel line up, certainly a form of "fair and balanced" censorship to match their own. Also, I hope to frustrate Chaney should he ever stay in one of those rooms.

What you really need to do is EDUCATE people so they will be able to tell for themselves what is fact and what is fiction. If they are intellegent and are able and willing to ask questions, they will be able to reason and discriminate as to what is NEWS and what is partisan commentary.
There is no law that says entertainment must be "fair and balanced" and the FCC doctrine that mandated such (in political debate, only) was struck down under Reagan, and finished by the FCC commissioners serving under Clinton.
You all need to KICK OUT all the incumbents in congress, and elect representatives with backbone and moral character. They should have turned the dogs out of this administration YEARS ago! Instead what we have BOTH in congress and the White House are pigs feeding at the trough of big business and corporations. Yes, we should boycott fox until they tip over.

We only perpetuate their theme of being "balanced" when we "dignify" them with a sounding board.

With great public announcement, indignation and fanfare, we should seek news outlets that truly are "fair and balanced" (if such a thing exists), and give the other networks an opportunity to serve the intelligent interests of the American citizens rather than their purient interests, news not entertainment.

On the subject of the Petraeus/Betrayus MoveOn ad, it was a very unfortunate choice of a headline because it created such outrage that the important substance of the ad was totally overlooked. That headline was reminiscent of the type of over the top bombast used by fox, and it was counter productive...a very expensive error.

I really think there are only two alternatives: boycott appearing on FOX and/or boycott FOX News' advertisers. I don't think the former is worthwhile -- it seems like surrender to the idiots to me -- but perhaps you should recommend to Democratic legislators and other reasonable people that every time they appear on FOX they should warn FOX on the air that they (FOX) must provide balance in their coverage. I'd recommend that you craft a short sentence to that effect and send it to anyone who is likely to appear on FOX.

As for the second alternative, I believe that you should assemble a list of advertisers and coordinate a mass e-mail campaign to those advertisers, threatening a boycott. I'd be happy to participate.

What I don't like about the Brave New Films video is that it spreads the message of the pro-war side. It does a good job of showing the imbalance in the time, but it fails to show that there is a strong anti-war message that was ignored.

As for what to do, we have to follow the Republican religion of letting the free market decide. All of us who don't like the FOX message should boycott all News Corp products (TV, movies, books, newspapers, TV Guide, MySpace) and their advertisers.

Don't waste your time...turn the TV off and read the news, in NY Times, Finanacial Times, LA times etc. and create a public forum in your community (those who want to think and discuss the political issues of the day) such as my friends and I did 4 years ago. We have a substantial base here and we do this monthly. Topics are always controversial to one degree or another. In other words create a civilized arena where people's views are valued and developed. Good Luck!

I applaud you Robert. Consider yourself a patriot of the highest order. What's really happening here is Fox likes ratings. So to hurt them the worst to bring down their ratings. People need to discover other media outlets other than cable news networks. The reality for Fox Noise is that they wouldn't in their right mind admit they're a propaganda outlet. But that is what has to happen. I do believe that the Republican party is on the way to self destruction through corruption. Not to say the Democrats don't have a share in this too, but to a much smaller scale. So what really needs to be attacked is corruption. Expose the most of it you can through all the other media outlets. Make sure Fox always gets the story last. This way it always sounds like sour grapes. The more politicians are outed the better it is for the system as a whole. So my advise to news organizations is that if they want true unbiased, balanced news then out every corrupt politician in DC. Show them the true power of the 5th estate.

It is my belief that doing anything to call attention to Fox "unfair and unbalanced" news reporting actually gives them more publicity. I cannot think of any liberal democrats that do not have an understand the nature of Fox. I have chosen not to watch because it causes my blood to boil. I think we need to remind people about all of the benefits that exist because of Liberal Democrats. They have done a better job at "demonizing" the word liberal. They have also have done the same thing with Abortion. What we acutally believe as a liberal democrat is in, "Choice." We can and will win by takinga positive posture. We need to find a way to force Faux News to either present accurate information or else to call themselves Fox Entertainment. I believe Dems and libs should appear on Fox as much as possible and begin each statement with the question "Will I be allowed to finish my statement?"
If told yes the host is obligated to listen for minute. Try to cram as much factual information as possible into each statement and back up with reputable sources, remain calm and objective, and invite hosts who disagree to check facts. There might be a few viewers who aren't complete idiots and can recognize reason and truth vs. mania?

I know people who do watch it, amazing as that seems to me, because my 85 year old ex-mother-in-law literally has Fox on all day. She even takes notes! I'm not kidding. She has George and Laura's picture on the refrigerator next to the pictures of her family. She thinks Bush and Blair are very good Christian men who are/were just misunderstood. She's actually not stupid, just terribly brainwashed and still lives in the fantasy America of her youth. As a professional therapist, I also believe she has enormous unresolved anger, and Fox is an outlet for some of her hate and rage. In her world, Bill O'Reilly is a strong father-figure who protects his own. (To my husband and I, if you put a Nazi uniform and cap on Bill O'Reilly, he'd fit right in with Hitler's SS.)

I no longer have any idea who advertises on Fox, but if you will tell me, I will gladly boycott their products. If you can, list parent companies and subsidiaries. If you include emails, I will write at least some of those companies and tell them why I am boycotting.

Another suggestion: Take your cameraman and catch one of these advertising corporate CEO's getting out of their car, and ask if they agree with one or another of the outrageous hateful statements. Michael Moore did something like that while making his documentary "Corporation", and it was very revealing. I realize, however, that it is not easy to go chasing around after CEO's. But if you do, send it out!

Finally, I will commit to asking any public establishment(restaurant)to either change the channel or lose my business, if they are showing Fox.

Media providers are corporations, and have no obligation to be fair, balanced, right, wrong, or neutral. They have an obligation to thier owners and/or shareholders to cut costs, maximize profits, and pressure government at all levels to keep the political environment safe for capitalist abuse. If they claim otherwise, they're full of shit.

FOX is no different from any other big media outlet - they are just more focused on their priorities. The other outlets have no motivation to provide honest news either.

I don't pretend to have a solution, but let's keep the problem clear - ALL big media companies have the same bias toward wealth and power. So what are you going to do about it?

Democrats should continue to go on any progrms they can to represent reality, but whenever they go on programs, like Fox, that are clearly unbalanced, they should point that out by saying something like, "Okay, it's three against one here, but that's okay, I've got reality on my side." Make sure the audience is aware of the imbalance, but then make the points that need to be made.

If you want to boycott fox advertisers, go to News Hounds. The regulars are happy to provide the advertisers' names and contact info. I've sent them notes of my distaste for fox crap myself, and ScottTrade was the only one who told me to get lost. Lowes and others pulled advertising.

And I agree, no Democrat, Liberal or Progressive should ever go on that fake news network.

Further, I urge everyone to contact their congressman and senators about banning fox as a default channel for US Soldiers. We don't like the kool-aid as much as some right wing leaders believe. We serve the country, not the neocon agenda.

The majority of fox viewers watch fox because it serves them and their ideology in some way. Inviting fox viewers to join us to laugh and/or cry at the absurdity of fox reporting is futile.
Every great social movement was concieved and pursued by a just a small group of people. What was that saying? Never underestimate the power of a small group of people... Brave new films has done a fine job of compiling and illustrating the propaganda machine. But I believe it will have to be through a political movement if we are to affect change. Find an attorney that can challenge the "news" in fox news. Make them change it to fox entertainment. Fox news is a corporation and therefore has an obligation to tell the truth to the public. Correct me if I am mistaken, but corporate rights to the constitution have never been established by the surpreme court. Another thought is have the FCC define the regulations and licensing requirements for "news" broadcast. Slippery slope, but much more manageable than convincing millions that they're being lied to. Congress is in charge of overseeing the FCC, if I remember right. Finding a Senator who will sponser a bill, like Senator Byrd in W. Virginia, that calls for the tight regulations around news broadcasting only, is an option I favor.

And miss priceless opportunities such as Bill Clinton taking Chris Wallace to the woodshed on his own program last year?

I sympathize with the temptation to encourage libs/Dems to "just say no" to Fox on grounds that appearing on their shows helps to legitimize and mainstream them. There is some truth to that. However, if all Dems agreed to shun Fox that would only give them cover for providing only one side of the debate since nobody was made available to offer a countervailing viewpoint. Dems would be painted as cowards for refusing to appear. The status quo is more effective--Dems appearing on Fox and vigilant institutions such as BNF, Media Matters, NewsHounds, Daily Kos, et al calling out Fox for its bogus claim of "Fair and Balanced."

What does help unduly legitimize Fox is allowing them to host such forums as Democratic Presidential Debates as the event in Nevada. Kudos to the first of those candidates who pulled out of the event and the grass roots (such as this writer) who petitioned the Nevada Democrats and forced its cancellation. Otherwise Dems need to be encouraged to stand and fight. That way Fox will be exposed for the partisan outfit that it is but tries to claim otherwise.

There's no substitute for vigilance.

While I agree with the 'Fox News' poster to the extent of not watching,(My stomach cannot handle it.) somebody has to see what swill they are feeding to the dittoheads. So keep up the great work.

In the meantime, I think pressure of any kind on advertisers may be the second best way to deal with this beast. I for one will not patronize a Fox News advertiser. I recently switched from buying at Home Depot for that very reason.

As long as Faux is owned by a right wing zealot, you will not get them to change their content, so forget about that approach. And there is one reason I personally watch them once in a while. Their format and so called news personalities are often better and easier on the eyes than what is on the competing stations. When we get CNN and MSNBC to liven up a little and stop being so drap (as in Blitzer) maybe we can reverse the ratings. And ma and pa six pack america is never going to shut off Faux - they have been brainwashed and they really think they are getting the "news" from that outlet. Maybe a moveon.org or media matters ad campaign exposing Faux as propoganda would help, but that would be very expensive and it's backlash would be severe.

A typical Fox News report. Fair and Balanced" they claim. Hog wash, for a better word. I recall the days after "Shock and Awe" when this cable news network (said with tongue in cheek) kept reporting that we were finding WMD, and when it didn't happen---nothing but silence. No retractions.

It's difficult to watch these guys from Fox News, but must to "screw up" my mind. Then I get out of their grasp, back to another couple of reliable cable networks----then my mind get clear once more with truth.

I believe it a great idea for any Democrat running for any office to tell'em to go to hell---but then it may be a cop out.

Haven't their ratings dropped? I guees they are still drawing people in, but some may be as myself---just to "screw up" their mind for a fraction of the day. "Screw them (Fox News)", I say.

I think some things we can do:
1. Strongly discourage dems and liberals from going on Fox News.
2. We need to start boycotting Fox News advertisers. In conjunction with MoveOn, PFAW, and other groups, this could have a big enough impact to worry advertisers.
3. Is there any sort of legal case to be made against the higher-ups at Fox? It would be great to see them carted off to jail. They are doing such a disservice to this country, further widening the huge divide and trying to escalate this war. And they were the first to announce George W's win so we have them to thank for the last 7 years of the worst presidency in the history of the US.

Why not do a blurb on media and use this 90 second bit as an example of distorting facts and get other stations to air it thus making Fox look like it is?....trash!! Electronic billboards might be another way to reach the poor, misguided public who won't read or listen to educational radio or TV programs with different points of view. You know those highways signs that are all about traffic safety, traffic jams, or road closures. I've seen some used locally that tell when a child has been abducted which tell the make of the car, license plate, date child was abducted etc. These were on I45 N of Houston. You could state an ongoing report of how many folks for escalation of the war as opposed to those opposed and update it twice per week. Expensive though! In my county in Texas, Montgomery, which is Republican, the figures would probably reflect those Fox reported, but not figures say, which came from Austin, Texas which is where Democrats abound.

Why is it that O.J. Simpson still gets all the publicity and anything educational or politically instructive is absent from the media? Personally I only listen to PBS or watch educational TV. I never watch or listen to Fox!!!! I could rant and rave on about Fox.....Imposing a DRAFT might make the public THINK. Finally this war might hit home. I've thought about asking all my Republican friends and family members who voted for Bush to think about which child or grandchild they want to donate to the funeral pyre? FOX contends(and their regular viewers believe) they are the response - the balancing position - put forth against skewed media reports by the - in FOX's opinion - overwhelmingly liberal media. They should be publicly questioned on this position - in columns, blogs, during interviews and other public appearances. Publicize the bias and lies as intentional and let FOX try to deny it. They might not bite but if thy do then you illuminate the LIE. I don't watch them but I don't watch the other major networks either; consider how all of them let down the American people during the period leading up to the invasion of IRAQ. Everyday conservatives were openly questioning the reasoning at the beginning of the info campaign - "Are we secure in Afghanistan, isn't this changinging horses in mid-stream?" - and the media went lockstep with the WAR ON TERROR. There were countless ways to question the strategy without even losing their red, white, and blue tatoos. I am troubled at the cynics who laugh at your org.'s attempt to expose FOX as biased - the "DUH" response - but I understand their hesitance to pound their head against a concrete bunker.

The group of Americans who swallow every bit of propaganda that Faux News feeds them are true believers and are unlikely to change their minds about the "rightness" of far right politics anytime soon. This is the same group that supports the Bush Administration unwaveringly and will accept no criticism of him and his cronies whatosever. This group is pretty much lost to the rest of us, in my opinion.

What is not lost is the group of advertisers who prop Faux News up. Always follow the money trail and these folks are it. Why not start publishing the list of primary FN cashcows, along with their political ties to the Far Right, so that a direct line can be drawn bewteen the GOP, the streamlining of content on FN to support GOP positions and talking points and the people who pay to have that content on the air? Perhaps those who are only casual customers of FN can be inspired to see the light, reducing the numbers that make this cable show so attractive to advertisers. I would be happy to boycott any company that advertises on FN, as long as that company knows WHY I am boycotting them.

Does anybody know where I can find a list of Fox advertisers? Watching Fox News (Faux Noise) doesn't fit into my schedule, but I could certainly call some advertisers and raise cain. The Fox owners aren't likely to listen to any citizen's opposing point of view; they've greedily tapped into an immense fear-driven market, i.e., millions of unthinking Americans who want their conservative views cooked and spoon-fed to them. Fox's profit picture is far more important to the network than any political ideal. The sensationalist Ann Coulter sells mega-airspace for them. The only place that the conscience-free Fox execs are sensitive is in their wallets. Influence Fox advertisers to cut funding, and change will happen.

I think that Fox will never stop. I don't think that Democrats should stop going on there, because then we will not have a say in what they report at all. I would like us to consider if we had a national television network that was pro-democrats would we have an equal balance of both sides or would we fill the time up with our propaganda. I would hope that we are open minded enough to let the other side speak and state their point and beliefs, as much as the Democrats would be allowed. I think we can only learn more and be able to debate our side better if we know where the other side is coming from, so we can counter their points with facts. I think we need to be more focused on making sure that our points of view are being covered on other news stations and in other forms of media. The more places we can get our points aired the better. What I would do in the case of Fox's "fair and balanced" program is for no Democratic candidate to agree to an interview, for no liberal, progressive, or Democrat to ever go on that program. Also, I would start a campaign to write to the advertisers that we will not purchase their products as long as Bill O'Reily continues his biased, full of lies, spin on current events. Let them talk to themselves as their advertisers pull the plug. It's not necessary to increase their viewing audience by having someone from our side agree to be made to look foolish. I've seen them do it and if we show up, we're asking for it. Common sense and lucid arguments stand for absolutely nothing. Lets boycott them!

The only way to effect any change on Fox is with money. Pick a Fox News advertiser at random, announce a boycott of that companies products and services and carry through with it until that company stops advertising on Fox. Then pick another company at random, announce another boycott and do the same. You keep doing that until companies get the message that putting ads on Fox is bad for their economic health. That becomes bad for Fox's economic health and they are forced to change or die. No other solution will have any effect. And you've got to be committed for the long term.

We can simply start on page 1 and pick an advertiser -- 1-800-PET-MEDS, for example, and all agree not to buy any pet medications from them until they pull their advertising from Fox. Then we move on to page 2 and pick another, Boston Market, maybe. (They're owned by McDonald's, aren't they?) And we all agree not to shop at Boston Market until they pull their dollars from Fox.

Someone above mentioned that we need a national group to organize such a boycott. Absolutely agreed. Without it, there's no noise. And it's the noise -- and the fear that generates -- that makes a boycott effective. Along with the "who's next?" mentality it engenders.

Didn't you hear? Dan Rather is bringing a lawsuit against, I believe its CBS, for forcing him out because he told the truth about George Bush when the Iraq War was being *invented*. The news of the lawsuit was on NBC tonight.

It is encouraging to see that some of the journalists are starting to wake up and finally refuse to be forced into collective lying. Fox is by far not the only media with distorted and biased news; it's, by far, the worse, but definitely not the only one.

Actually the other news channels pick up FOX lies and give them legitimacy by reporting milder versions of them. The public gobbles it all, no matter where they watch -- except on PBS; it is about the only public station that reports the entire story as it is.

Message to Fox Attacks... To begin to gain significant support for your campaign against the obviously biased Fox News station, I think the easiest and most intelligent thing to do would be to petition and present information to all of the OTHER news networks and give them the information that you've found. Present facts, and support them with documentation to the other networks and allow those other networks to present this case to the public. The affect you're trying to have would be much stronger if CNN, MSNBC, or even E! or some network that's not owned by Murdock came out and publicly shamed Fox and exposed them for what they are.

We need to know the sponsors' names, addresses and phone numbers. The sponsors need to know that we will not patronize them if they continue to support such programming. Liberals, dems and progressives that do appear on Fox must use their precious time to relay this message. Their first sentence regardless of the question or topic needs to be "I find it hard to believe that the sponsors of this program, ______, _______, and _____ know how biased this news network is. If they knew I believe they would spend their most powerfull advertizing dollars elsewhere."

Fox "News" is nothing more than the Reichsministrei fur Propoaganda of the Bush regime, with Roger Ailes as it's Obersturmbahnfuherer. As the Bush administration declared war on the American People on January 21, 2001 (and then burned down the "Reichstag" a few months later, on 9/11), it is the duty of every American to take up the call of arms against Fox. We are at war, and they are the enemy - and thus a legitimate military target for the wrath of the The People. The one that got me happened just last evening at the Emmys, when Sally Field remarked, "If mothers were running this country we wouldn't have any more wars." Fox, as usual, cut it out of their news hour. Our modern rulers are extrmely leary of disent, and so was Big Brother in George Orwell's powerful novel 1984, written over sixty years ago. It's so disturbing because his novel describing a Police State parallels nearly everything happening in the world and in our country today. Either George Orwell had incredible insight, or Corporate Television has fashioned their own Ministry of Truth right out of the pages of his novel, an all pervasive News Network, whose three slogans were repeated nightly as in a ritual, so that to believe otherwise meant you were a mortal enemy of the State, someone who must be gotten rid of.

Fox and its owners are getting something out of the propaganda it's spewing. What ever happened to the scandal regarding the paid "news-gandists" about three years or so ago? How much money is the Bush Crime Administration giving out to Fox and other propagandists to this day? Why doesn't some Democrat investigate that?

It all boils down to what Reagan did in 1988 bowing to pressure from the right: "Abolishing the Fairness Doctrine" which allowed channels like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh to exist. 92% of radio talk show hosts are right wing persuasion. Public airwaves belong to the public and the fairness doctrine must be restored. Insist that the presidential candidates promise to restore the fairness doctrine and bust the 5 media monopolies which control our thought process.

Really and truthfully... what is the market share for Fox News? Do they get significan audiences? My gut says, "No". The nation appears to have been shocked into action, at least for the time being, and will soon vote out large numbers of phoney right-wing nuts who have proliferated as part of the anti-Clinton propaganda that began soon after his election. We just have to believe that the next Democratic president and Democratically-controlled Congress will take effective actions and not squander the opportunity for political expediency.

I realize that many people have bought into the propaganda that the federal government should be small and that publically funded initiatives are akin to "socialism" but the role of the federal government as what seemed to be invisioned by our country's founders is to provide for the common wellfare. That includes bridges, roads, telecommunications, schools, retirement, and healthcare. What kind of stupid nation are we to neglecting these things? And in the name of "lower taxes"? Let me ask you how much your local taxes have increased to compensate for the decrease in Federal spending? Oh, you don't see it? Try looking at your local roads and bridges. Ever bitch about how crappy your public schools have become? Know anyone who has gone broke paying for a surgery?

I think most people are starting to care about this stuff and thankfully, idiots like those on Fox News clearly do not. Therefore, their wanninginfluence will lead to their removal from our airwaves.
